The fish will not spook with a good wind, But it is the mudd and water clarity the loopers and steelhead are close to the river mouths and the salmon Cohos are there as well I have had my boat out the last week and fishing has been great for Cohos and some nice loopers and steelhead. But the cohos, when you find them it is awesome cuz there all together and bitten what ever you have out:-). This cold is bad but hope it warms up next week. But when the rivers open up and the loopers and steelhead go up the rivers you will not catch them on spoons or stick but you can get them from shore on spawn. But trolling they just don't bite till they are done spawning. But it has been nice trolling this past week just can't wait to get back out:-).

Decomposing killer whale carcasses from the winter freeze? wink

What brown stuff are you referring to?

It may take til the 9th to get the color back to normal. It looks like 1 big frothy root beer flaot right now. I shot some video off of Canal Park Today. Man was that cold but it was cool with everything around the board walk having several inches of ice on it.

So Northlander and everyone else who's been on the big pond is it a good idea to come up there and do some fishing this weekend. I'v been planning for the last two months and this saturday I was going to head up, is even worth the two hour drive. Thanks in advance for the feedback...

Wont know for about 3-4 days but I would say by this weekend it should be ok if the wind stops here pretty soon. Its down to 23 mph now. It could take 5 days for it to settle and get a good color back though.

Well the lake looks good who else is going out this week? If we get up to 35 degrease the boat will be out just fishing and enjoying the soft water.

??? I noticed maybe 150ft of fairly clear water before the mud started as far as I could see up the shore as I came over the Blatnik. Any chance this would bring the fish in close to the shore?

When I was driving down Glenwood at 5 it looked like the currents had cleared the areas closer to shore and all the mud had grouped up out in the middle...still a lot of mud, but it looked a lot better today than yesterday.

Has anyone seen if McQuade access is open? Or if the Duluth entry is open? Any guesses when they will be open?

Thanks

I believe all of the mud comes from the nemadji - it flows through a lot of farm land and has bad clay/erosion. Those areas are probably melting faster upstream on the nemadji where the sun really gets to it, hence more run-off.

Looking at the satellite - it still looks like that's all stuff from the crazy wind we had. Sure is interesting how those different mud lines form out there.

I have heard it's because of the drought. I know in my area ( meeker co.) the sloughs that they trap minnows in have dried up.
    • SkunkedAgain
Excuse my ignorance, but was is driving the bait prices? Usually the shortage is due to a late ice-out from the swamps and streams. This year should have been much better.

I should probably learn to use the 6+ containers of lures I have collecting dust in my tackle box. We got on a decent crappie bite the last couple of evenings and I broke out some plastics.  I caught some crappies on them ,just need to build my confidence in using them! I did notice they didn't seem to hold on to them as long as minnows!

      Great news, thank Skunked

Minnows are 50 cents each, and leeches are $50 a pound.
    • SkunkedAgain
Absolutely. I get full bars all-along the drive from Cook to The Landing, and out into Head O Lakes bay. I can't say that I've stared much at my phone signal anywhere else besides on my way to Black Bay. We still don't get much for service there because there are a lot of steep slopes with tall trees in the way. That was expected though. The tower is definitely providing better service to the area in general IMO.
    • PSU
Any updates on this new tower? Has it helped AT and T customers throughout the lake get better service?
    • Jetsky
Thanks for the heads up. Cigar.

The price will blow your mind if they get some

Went in to Lucky 7 to get some crappie minnows today. All they had were crappie minnows and fatheads. She said to call in advance for the opener, couldn't say for sure if they'd have rainbows, shiners, etc for opener!
