1 period left. One close shot from the Fins but not much else. I think they can lock this one down and "Finish" it off!!

Dang 6-1. They brought in Thomas with about 9 minutes left to "give them a fighting chance". I believe he is the 3rd goalie for USA. Oh well no shutout but Miller was as good as ever in there.

Those pesky Finns sneak one by on a powerplay, there goes the shutout - oh well. Nice shot, looks like miller might have been screened a little.

man what a waste... i came home from work early to watch the game. Walked in the door 10 minutes into the game and they're up 4-0.

Kinda boring to watch it knowing the outcome isn't in doubt.

Oh well, bring on Canada! I hope we get the chance to avenge the women's loss last night

All I can say is after a game like that, both Canada and Slovakia better watch out. Im pretty sure Canada is gonna route the Slovs but you never know. Miller has only allowed 5 goals the whole tourney. Not too shabby.

Tim Thomas is the goalie for USA right now. They took out Miller with about 9 remaining.

I missed that part, a good idea to get him out and give out backup a little action. With the game in hand I was a little more productive at work this afternoon and only checked in the action every so often.

The goal for Finland was deflected off Jack Johnson and after the goal he went to Thomas and had some words...it happens, a shutout would have been nice but ah USA won anyway! It was a fun 1st period to watch!

That was crazy, so if canada wins,,,,, will this be the most expensive sporting tickets ever? Honestly I saw they beat out the supper bowl ticket price, the Canadians first game.

Wow was that first period fun. Just a complete rout of those Finns. Although I hope we play Slovakia, the Border Battle rematch will be a huge deal.

demitra hits the post on a wide open net with a few seconds to play, what a finish. USA vs canada re-match for gold, could it get any better

USA vs Canada for gold.

This is gonna be a treat. Will Brodeur be between the pipes for Canada again???

Anyone else get a little extra smile watching the USA light up Kiprusoff yesterday?? After him making such a statement about him only playing for Finland if he was the clear cut #1 Goaltender and played every game, I had a hard time pulling for the Fins even though some of Wild boys were involved.

My grin was a little wider watching Miikka struggle like he did yesterday smile

I have lost all respect for Kirprusoff, most players are begging to represent their countries and he is gonna be a whimp about it. Where Milburry to call him Euro-trash or something.

Man Demietra with 2 huge chances in the final few minutes. He had a decent amount of net in the final seconds when he hit the pipe. Geeze, he needs to score that one. Cant really fault the guy, but man that sucks for him. Its kind of crazy with all these players not playing well in the olympics, Demietra of all players has stepped it up.

By the way where was Gaborik at the end of the game? I dont think i saw him out there at all the last few minutes.

Where's all the talk of the game??? This is a MN Sports forum with at least 4 of the players on Team USa from MN. I like Can 4-2,,,(empty net) but if the USA beats them,,, wheres the love??? Come on,, it's got to be the biggest defeat in CAN history. MN a Hockey State, lets see some talk. I have the sense that nobody on this forum thinks the US has a chance,, and if it happens, then it will be FULL of people. Miller Time in net is HUGE. Come on, (being from MN and watching the 1980 game tape delayed) let's get excited!!!!! Beating the Canucks would be so so so SWEET!!

Backstrom should have been between the pipes for Finland throughout the games. Oh well. To our benefit.

Go Team USA! Tomorrow is a great day.

Alright Mudcutter you X-MNer, I am going for a big USA victory!!!. Ah, lets see here. Is Canada going to score, hmmmm. Ill give them 2 goals. I guess we just have to score more than that to win. So here it is. USA 4 - Canada 2. Can you believe that. Never would have said that on day one. But, I havent seen Canada come together yet. They still are just have a bunch of super stars and wine ers that dont play as a team. they dont have grinders. And I think we can speed around their defense.

Candada 42 shots, USA 26 shots.

I think the key is going to be USA shooting from the point as well. I dont know how the game is going to be called, but I would highly doubt any refs want to make that crowd mad.

By the way, I would put Brodeur in ..

I agree brodeur is the better goal tender in big games, USA has everything working for them, plus beating canada already. it will be a home game for canada, but I still like the US to win this.

I'm with you Scsavre - on paper the US gets beat every time but I haven't seen anything spectacular out of Canada all tourney. The US team is flying out there, making things happen, and playing as a team. I think it will be another 5-3 game for the good guys.

Brodeur should play, I don't think Luongo can keep the US from the 3rd and 4th chances where we are going to get some goals.

Fired up here too! It should be a heck of a game. Miller will need to be his usual self or maybe better than his usual self to win this one. Canada is going to come out flying, if we can weather the storm in the first 5-10 minutes and grind it out I think we can win. Either way it should be fun to watch.

Yeah, today could be a game of the ages!! Your right Bear55, Miller needs a game of a lifetime!! We got them once, they will be ready. I thought our lst match up was one of the best games I have seen, but this one could top that. Let's go USA!!!!

The water looks low but appears to be on the rise. We will be there  the week after opener. I have been going since 1981 and enjoying the experience. We love the variety of fish we catch and release each year. Ice went out a bit earlier than in years past. Water may be warmer and plan to target some crappies. We fish predominately in Sand Point as we camp. Good luck all and tight lines. We may consider the hike to Lake Lucille which we did 2 years ago.

thats great to hear regarding the lake levels!!!!!!

On an off light precipitation today. Hoping the weather this weekend will be nice so I can get out and crappie fish and check the weather. My yard has standing water and the driveway is a mess. Lot of lakes are near standard water levels which is good. Heard they are done stripping eggs on cut foot. Shaping up to be a good opener. Last year fished open water 60+ days and 28 different lakes. Hopefully bump both those numbers up this year

I don't think its 100% accurate, you are just relying on other average joes to report precipitation. But I think most numbers there are right in the ball park, especially when you see consistency among multiple reports in a general area.   It's probably more accurate than what the weather terrorists say on the news  which usually only reports metro areas. cocorahs is good for getting rural area reports you just might not have as many reports to go off of

Thanks Mike.  I've been looking at bags of it for years but never wanted to chance wasting good meat on it.  I have a gas and charcoal grills, but really love the flavor of charcoal over gas. Most of the time it's if we have time to use one or the other.

On the south end...   The big open water, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  The bays and tributaries of LOW such as Zippel Bay, Bostic Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  The lake is in good shape for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. The many bays and backwaters of the lake have been receiving attention from spring pike anglers.  Some pike have already entered the bays, spawned and gone back out to the lake, but there are still a pile of fish to be had.   The pike season on LOW is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one fish allowed more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. On the Rainy River...  Another great week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  The bite has been very good and lots of fish of all sizes are being boated.     Sturgeon are being caught from Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River all the way to Birchdale, about 42 miles.  There are many boat ramps along the river to make life easy.  Starting from the east going west...   -Nelson Park at Birchdale (About 30 miles east of Baudette) -Frontier (9 miles west of Birchdale) -Vidas (Near Clementson Rapids) -Timbermill Park (East Baudette) -Peace Park (International Drive, Baudette) -Wheeler's Point (mouth of Rainy River)  The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Up at the NW Angle...  The Angle is ice free.  Resorts are gearing up for the fishing opener which is expected to be excellent.  The late ice bite was very good and the walleyes are in good numbers amongst the islands area of the NW Angle.
