342 b for us. My second year in a row. I can't wait until April!

Time to get the calls out and drive the family crazy again!

Drawn for 349 C. Can't wait, already got the calls out to start practicing. Needless to say my wife hates this time of year, I've tried to stay in the basement or alone in the car which has helped so far. Good luck to all those that were lucky enough to be drawn.

Powder, it looks like you were drawn for 244B. Nowhere in your post does it show anything that you weren't drawn. Like someone else posted; the preference points is probably a carry-over from a previous file.

finally after 3 years, 344A. Sweet.

For those that didn't get drawn, I have always bought a surplus for later in the season, I am not very successful, but can still get onto birds occasionally.

Leech, We've been draw for 349A thepast 2 years. This year we went for 349C because my son is away at college and this way he can hunt with me the 1st 2 days. Before our 349A drawings were 1999 then 2002 then 2005. We always put in for a group of 4. I feel lucky since we been able to go now again this year. DrJ

This is the first year for me. I believe I got drawn but why does it say I have 2 preference points? Here is what it says:

Spring wild turkey license lottery results

Congratulations! Your number was drawn as part of the lottery in area 244 zone B.

Your preference level is 2.

Your group preference level is 2.

Why do I have preference points if I got drawn?

They are congradulating you because you drew a tag for area 244 zone B!

It's stating the preference level of this year's drawing. Next Spring you'll be a one again.

I got drawn and so did my oldest son but not my younger son.

If you apply as a group(up to 4 people) and one of you gets drawn the whole group gets drawn. Best way to apply if you have several guys wanting to hunt together.

Awesome 425 D for us. Best part is since the new regs came on my 15yr old son can hunt whenever it works out for us. Thats one of the best regs that they have came up with.

I can't believe how may guys don't get drawn. I can't remember the last time I put in for a zone I wanted to hunt in and didn't get drawn. A few years I'd put in for season A in a zone with like 5-15 permits so I won't get drawn, get a point and buy a surplus or an archery tag. Then after a couple years I'd put in for an early season in my home zone.

225D this year. I also never go for season A, B, or C unless I have at least 1 point.

Another thing MN needs to do is let people who got drawn buy an additional surplus tag on the date that people who didn't apply are eligible to buy them. If the tags sit there and never purchased, what good does that do. In WI I know guys that shoot tons of turkeys every year. Hopefully MN will figure it out soon.

Good luck to everyone this spring.

Drj,

Ya, my son is in College as well so he has missed a few openers and altogether last time. We still put in for him so it doesn't change our Prf, group numbers. We have thought about going for a later season because the weather is always hit or miss, snow, wind & rain most years!

frown But it's hard to know if the trade off of not hunting birds that haven't been called to or shot at is better or not? Most years for us it seems like the birds that early are not even really stutting yet? But we have gotten and missed a few so we have to keep trying. smile

No dice for my group. We've been an "every other year" draw since we started. If we wanted a later season we could hunt, but when hunting public land, being early is key.

no dice here, first year, didn't expect much.

How does the surplus work? I thought it was archery only, last two weeks, over the counter....

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
