I've heard that slang thrown around quite a bit so I have to ask. Been fishing MN for 8 years now and still don't know what people are referring to when they say "mudpuppy".

thanks for educating me ;-)

ohhhhhhhh, those things....

thanks guys

on a side note, rumors back in ND were that you could use waterdogs(more familiar term) to hook walleye. Never did it myself but a good friend used to catch nice 'eyes on sakakawea that way - so he says

anyone heard of that around here?

Gosh those things are gross. I don't know what I'd do if I caught one. Call me a sissy but I'd probably just cut the line and kick it back down the hole.

It was a big ball of line that was all tangled together that it was hooked to. We didn't catch the mudpuppy, but did catch the line in it's mouth.

No, not that I noticed

I know those things all to well. First year fishing on the Croix I caught a ton of them while looking for walleye.

Mud puppy's are the only critter I won't take off the hook with my hands sick ...those little gills sticking out of their neck creep me out.

I was headed down 371 from Pine River yesterday and must have saw a 100 houses headed north.  She's going to be a busy one on all the big lakes this weekend!

Went back up Thursday to avoid the weekend rush.  Cold start at -22°F with a good wind.  Happy to be inside a permanent house.  No fresh snow so no more drifting.  Ice was very noisy with the cold weather.  Saw a big pickup truck drive off of plowed roads from McKinley Park to Ely Island without getting stuck, but the truck had very wide tires and a good size lift.  A light snow is predicted Friday night with a 5mph wind so there could be more drifting this weekend.  Temperatures this weekend look a little cool, but not cold.   Fishing was much better 3 days later.  Caught my biggest yet this winter at 26 inches.  She bit very light and didn't resist much until she saw the hole.  Then she peeled out a lot of line before I could bring her in and conduct CPR (catch, picture, release).  Fished from 7:15am-6:00pm and had good bites from 8:00-8:40am and 1:30-2:10pm.  Outside of those windows I had very little action.  Chubs were much more productive than shiners this time.  Marked many suspended fish but couldn't get them to bite.  Had better action when I would lower my minnow to the bottom and lift it up slowly.   Found a good way to reheat Zup's polish delites on my buddy heater.  Tasted great after my one-week low-fiber diet.  I counted 40 permanent houses from McKinley Park to Ely Island and Birch Island.  I assume more houses will go out this weekend, but I bet a lot more will be pulled off the ice before the last week of the season.  Beautiful sunset to end a great day on the ice.   Good luck fishing, be courteous, and please pick up your trash.  Just 9 days left of the season.

It is  pretty shiny piece of equipment. I was able to purchase it on my scab job wages 😆 I don't think I'll update the electronics any time soon, 3 screens is enough?

Just another "Words matter"   Voting on school levy. This was posted on the School "education district" building door.  We had a nice cold walk all the way around the building! The arrow was added, after we educated them! 😒

      Nope!  But it’s more funner!

I don't need no livescope to catch fish....🤔🤪  It's all in how ya wiggle the worm!😜 Just sayin  🤣

Obviously this is more of a hot topic due to forward facing sonar. With that being said, I know people who have pulled crappies out of basins 40+ deep since the fl-8 and zercom flashers came out. That's over 30 years ago. I do think there's a push to ban these in MN and I could see them doing it here. They'll have to pay my livescope from my cold dead hands 😆 on days I can't catch a walleye jigging or rigging it's nice to turn it on and throw corks at individual fish
