Oh... I checked it last night around 5 and the gate was closed. His website even said the access was closed until next season.

I would guess it will be limited to daytime hours since ppl need to get houses off, it looks to be open now via his webcam.

Any idea on why there are thin ice signs at Harty's access?

The ice at the landing melts pretty quickly and he's making sure everyone is safe and also (IMO) to cover himself from a liability point of view. I know that a few years ago a truck went through in February when the ice was nice and thick everywhere else, but the think carp might have weakened the ice in that spot.

Yeah, that's my assumption as well. I did notice there were more flags out in the middle of the lake in one area.

Went out on Medicine today on the east side with my brother and have pretty much the whole lake to our self. All the slush on top have froze over so trekking out onto the lake was a breeze. Ice was still solid with about 3 to 4 inch of white ice on top. Perch are still very active during the daytime. Tungsten jig with red euro works great but the bigger perch prefer crappie minnow. Hook one pike that totally took me of guard. Pike was 28 1/2in long. CPR it

Went out from West Medicine Lake Park. The access is very solid, no problem to drive around. Caught a lot of Crappies, nothing big, 8-9" rang with some small ones.

Nice, thanks for the info. I was wondering what the shape was like out there but haven't had time to drive by.

I saw a truck out there on Friday. Didn't seem very smart for late March.

Just picked up a kayak finally and took it out on its maiden voyage to medicine, targeting bass. Caught 3 decent ones in about and hour and a half. Biggest about 18", all came off the weed edge on a 10" power worm. Tried frogging in the lilys til one of my guides broke mysteriously. All in all a decent little trip.

It looked almost completely froze over on Saturday could see a couple small pockets that weren't but should be by now. The park access on the north end is closed and is blocked off for ramp construction, not sure if it will be opened up or not but the whole parking lot is closed off with no trespassing signs. The only access is on the SE side by that park until Harty's opens up there's

On the way home from work today there were 3-4 portables set up around 50 yards or less from shore on Southwest side of Medicine lake, I have not checked ice there yet but it has been froze up for a week

Stopped out to check ice on the west side today. 3 portables were set up and talked to one of the guys who informed me there was 5 inches of ice with a few thin spots of about 2 inches. Seemed to be good ice but may be a little early still for my liking.

Happy Thanksgiving, heading out to Medicine Saterday. Heard from a couple people that have ventured out there recently that the ice is 4+ inches everywhere they checked. They caught 2 northern and then moved deeper off the weedline and got a few crappie. They did not go out from shore past 300 yards. Any other reports about Medicine out there?

i will be heading out there tomorrow as well but have not made it out yet to fish, there have been some shacks set up on west side not out very far. I checked some of their holes a couple days ago and I would say around 4-5 inches. We will see tomorrow

Might not have to wear ear plugs when I mow!      That’s a spendy one.  It wasn’t hard to find one of those for $6k.  Comparatively and Ariens of the same size is $4,200.  A home owner grade JD for $3,900.  You could get into a commercial grade Z700 for maybe $8k.   I think the work I did today with mine would’ve killed that one there.

On the south end...   This year's MN Fishing Opener weekend was not only great weather wise, the walleyes and saugers were caught in good numbers.  A main fish gut hauler working with a number of resorts commented it was one of the most productive opening weekends he has seen based on the amount of fish guts collected after the weekend. The goto presentation was a jig and frozen emerald shiner.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.  Other minnows worked also, but emerald shiners are a favorite of anglers for good reason.   Four Mile Bay held good walleyes in 12 - 18'.  Not a surprise as the walleye bite on the river during the spring season was good and as of late, sturgeon anglers have been reporting catching walleyes on sturgeon rigs.   The Lighthouse Gap area, Morris Point Gap and just in front of Pine Island held nice fish in 12 - 15'.  Across the south shore, 18 - 22' was holding good numbers as well.  As you can see, there are lots of fish around.     A quarter ounce jig in gold, glow white, pink, orange, chartreuse, or a combo of these colors tipped with a minnow worked well.   As a reminder, the limit of walleyes and saugers is a combined limit of six fish, up to four of the six can be walleyes.  All walleyes between 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  One fish over 28.0 inches can be kept.  The possession limit in MN is one daily limit of fish. On the Rainy River...  Some nice walleyes were caught on the river this weekend, although most anglers hit the lake.  10 - 15' of water was the norm.     Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River has been excellent.  The catch and release season continues through May 15th and then closes until the keep season starts up again July 1st. Up at the NW Angle...  Some nice walleyes were caught in 18 - 25 feet of water, a little deeper than anticipated.  Points were good as were areas with structure.  The morning and evening bite was best.       As water continues to warm, go to spots for walleyes will be neck down areas, shoreline breaks, points and bays.     The goto presentation was a jig and minnow.
