Anyone find where the crapps been hidin' at? I haven't had any luck on them all winter. Not in the normal local's for this winter. Maybe the late ice will have 'em back where they belong... in my pail! Good luck.

I have been out a fair amount in the last couple weeks and havent found much for deep basin roamers but have been getting some in fairly shallow along the green weeds.

the fish have been there all winter.. i have fished the same pattern and have had success every time ive been out.. yes the bite has been not so good but if you present it right and put in work you wouldve had some success.. ive been anywhere from 30 to 50 feet of water just chasing them around

I was out on wed., fished deep, shallow, and everywhere in between. Finally found some crappies late afternoon in deeper water, but they seemed to be roaming, not a very hot bite. It was still nice to be out there and start working on my tan. I plan on going out this weekend and see what I can find. The problem I found going shallower is how to keep those itty bitty perch away.

I agree about the itty-bitty perchies up shallow...the harbinger of spring is when all of a sudden those bites change over to the regular-sized keepers that were out in the deep water! That is happening now, but it's still a slow transition. It also means walking out, and deteriorating ice.

The way it looked saturday afternoon it may not be long before the access at BJ's won't be usable. Quite a few people out yesterday with the nice weather, just didn't find many crappies. I wonder how the people in the panfish contest did.

was at a friends house by hwy 24 and saw some boats on that end of the lake near sunset, wondering how the bite has been?

I made a few passes on Saturday evening with no results. Talked to a buddy who was out on Friday with no fish either.

How clear is the water right now? How far down can you see the bottom?

I would estimate 5 feet, maybe 6.

Opening weekend you could easily see down to 12 feet. With the wind this weekend it was a little less.

When the sun got really bright, I was watching walleyes swing around in 15 feet. This was on opener.

Went out today, clarity was about 10'. Crappies are done spawning and the sunfish will be done by next week. Pike were following but not very agressive.

I went out after work on Wednesday the 19th and there was a total algae bloom everywhere I went in the west basin. That took care of the water clarity. I went out again Sunday evening the 23rd and the bloom was subsiding but the water was still murky. Much better for fishing.

We had league there tonight. Worst night for total points we have ever had out there.

10 boats, grand total of 17 fish brought in. Pike were absolutely non existent. Pretty amazing on that lake.

Hockey, Too bad you guys didn't do so well. I was out during the middle of the day yesterday and the pike were surprisingly active. I was out for panfish, so I didn't really spend too much time casting, but I boated three and had probably a dozen follows to the boat. Water is clear so they are easy to see. The pike were coming off of the breaks in about 10'-15' FOW. Weed growth seems very sparse for this time in the season.

Went out this morning. Marked a lot of fish, but tough bringing them (walleye) in the boat. Only caught one. Saw one HOG that was brought in, but other than that, didn't see any other boats bringing any in either.

Weather was fantastic, good to get out even thought the bite wasn't on.

We had good luck both Saturday and Monday. 12 ft of water late morning using a leech and a hook under a bobber. We did 19, 19.5, 17,16,15 and lost one that had to be at least 25 next to the boat. In the same area we were catching bass over 4 lb and a couple of northerns around the 4 to 5 lb size. Did real well on Sunday catching panfish. This is the only time of the year I can figure this lake out. The other 50 or so weeks I really struggle with Clearwater.

Hockey, how does the league work for scoring fish. release at boat side or is there a weight-in.

Nice!   It would be great if they had some kind of brake, so you don't end up on your neighbors YouTube video going down the driveway! 😆

Last month I went searching online for a trailer jack with pneumatic tires. Instead I found the video below showing a relatively quick and easy upgrade to your existing jack:     It's worked pretty well. I definitely had to mess around with finding the right combination of spacers, washers, and locknut pressure that wouldn't bind up the wheels. However, it is a pretty sweet setup and allows me much better control. We live at the end of a half-alley. My garage faces the end so when I need to hook my boat up to the truck, I have to pull it out into my driveway and then swivel it 180 degrees to face towards the street. The handle is what really makes the difference and now the trailer jack wheels don't slide on the asphalt. Has anyone else done this conversion?

I've got a pile of crawlers ready to go - a nice side benefit of all the rain in the metro lately.   At the very least, I hope that the remaining trappers are making some better money off of the higher prices. I would think that it would be a great way for local kids to make some cash. I can see why it wouldn't make for a great way to make a living as an adult.

Went out yesterday with the sunshine. I did find crappies in the shallows on a darker stained lake with Temps at 58 degrees. They had no interest in my baits

That's part of it.  Several recent years of drought have definitely played a role.   There's other factors too.  MN does not allow importation of live bait from other states either.  That really affects the amount of golden shiners available, most of which are not trapped here.  In other words, demand exceeds supply.   Lots of bait trappers and dealers have simply hung it up in recent years.  Its hard work for not much money.  The two nearest me are both done as of last October.  They both told me its just not worth it anymore.  One of them had been there for 45 years.   My advice would be to learn how to effectively fish with artificial lures more often.  I've slowly weened myself off the use of live bait nowadays.

Think the Free crawlers in the back yard are going to take a hit this summer! 🤭

Correction, rainbow minnows are at least 75 cents each, and leeches are $60 per pound. lol

Their coming! Was poking around southern center mn last Friday and found about 20 on a hill side, all to small to pick yet.  Spots on the GPS! 🤗

Water Temps 48-52. I tried for crappies and caught two walleye. I can't even crappie fish. 1/32 ounce jig and a tiny minnow
