We drove by Volney after some dog work - and there were some guys out on it - right near the landing - about 30 yds out. We stopped to eat at the place on Clearlake - that ice looked really icky - but there were 3 guys out there...

I was on Scotch today and I believe there is about 6". Many 4-wheelers around on the ice. I was one of the few without.

Tomorrow I will have my wheeler with for sure.

Found a new area to fish on a local rice county lake. HUGE perch to be caught. Pretty sure they are worth braggin' about if they bend in a 5 gallon bucket. Ice thickness varies spot to spot. Be carefull in the drifts. Had 9" of ice and as little as 1" in spots. People where driving wheelers all over the lake, but they weren't checking ice thickness at all. After what I saw, I won't be on a 4 wheeler for quite some time.

Keep that spot to yourself, don't abuse the resource and you'll have a fun winter. Congratulations on hunting down some nice perch.

How did you find " 1" " in spots?

Hello everyone. I just became a member. Love the fishing talk and ice reports. Just wanted to know if anyone has info on Clear Lake in Waseca yet as far as ice thickness yet. Went sledding with the kids at the park and walked out 10-20 yards looked like good ice.

Shore line was really soft though. Didn't have the Ice auger out yet and haven't see others out there yet. Thanks.

Any reports for Tetonka or Lake Frances? Any decent walleyes or crappies left in either? Does Reeds lake have anything besides bass???

I fished Elysian Sat. nite missed one bite, but had plenty of company and noise on the north end. I found 3-7" of ice. 7" in spots the snow didn't stick to.

Fished Shields Sun. Morn with my son who needed a training session on reading fish activity on his vexilar. We caught enough fish to get an education, but I didn't find any size in the species I was looking for. Mostly 4" of ice/frozen slush. Lot's of noise and a 4 wheeler driving around portables aimlessly...??????

You should tell the lake you were on just keep your spot to yourself, it might save someone from taking a swim! like me!

Be careful out there guys.

I stopped at the Shieldsville store for some milk...few guys in there looking at rods n such. Asked em how it was going....they just heading out to Mazaska.

Well..store owner stated, and I believe em as I live On the lake....guy was out on Kelly today, with spud... clunk, clunk SPLASH.

Be safe! Its been a goofy start to the season with cold + snow + wind. I'd love to hear reports from ya'll in the later winter...and not hear reports of guys down via the Sheriffs dept!

I was on Mazaska today, mainly in front on the HWY 21 public access, ice was a pretty solid 6-7", I did not venture to the North as far as I wanted. I had some time restraints.

There was some travel towards the northern edge of cottonwood point.

There also was 3 portys on the NW sand bar, looked to be a wheeler out there, but I did not bring the Binocs to verify.

Hope we do not get the snow tonight they are talking, it could slow down a ice making process.

I hope he's not seriuosly considering giving up that info, considering these Ice reports are to be used as a general idea of area conditions and, it is suggested that every one uses there own judgement when traveling out on the ice!

especially after using the hole perch bit! no sense having extra pressure on a lake with those types of conditions

I ended up on 3 area lakes this weekend, Roberds had about 3-3.5 inches, also broke through in one spot with 1 jab of my chisel.(about a inch and a half)

Reohmhildts had about 3 inches (no snow on the lake must of locked up after snow storm )

Tetonka had 3.5 -6.5 inches ,patchy snow

Still use caution when travel on the lakes,I personally feel it is a little early for atv travel and would hold of another week .

What about Frances (Francis) Lake? Was thinking about going out there this weekend. Haven't read anything here about Frances. What's the fishing report on that lake? Crappies & Northerns?

Was on an area lake tonight. Drove the wheeler out and never checked ice. Had 4" when i cut two holes where i was gonna spend the afternoon. Good clear ice. Got some decent perch then as soon as the sun went down never marked another fish. Just good to get out for the first time.

I have been itching to get my perm out asap, and I don't have an atv to pull it out with, and I sure don't want to attempt doing it by hand. Anyone out there willing to pull it out for me? There will be a reward, and some fishing time involved. Its going to go out on german and I have many waypoints to give a try this winter. Email me at [email protected] Thanks!

thats great to hear regarding the lake levels!!!!!!

On an off light precipitation today. Hoping the weather this weekend will be nice so I can get out and crappie fish and check the weather. My yard has standing water and the driveway is a mess. Lot of lakes are near standard water levels which is good. Heard they are done stripping eggs on cut foot. Shaping up to be a good opener. Last year fished open water 60+ days and 28 different lakes. Hopefully bump both those numbers up this year

I don't think its 100% accurate, you are just relying on other average joes to report precipitation. But I think most numbers there are right in the ball park, especially when you see consistency among multiple reports in a general area.   It's probably more accurate than what the weather terrorists say on the news  which usually only reports metro areas. cocorahs is good for getting rural area reports you just might not have as many reports to go off of

Thanks Mike.  I've been looking at bags of it for years but never wanted to chance wasting good meat on it.  I have a gas and charcoal grills, but really love the flavor of charcoal over gas. Most of the time it's if we have time to use one or the other.

On the south end...   The big open water, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  The bays and tributaries of LOW such as Zippel Bay, Bostic Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  The lake is in good shape for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. The many bays and backwaters of the lake have been receiving attention from spring pike anglers.  Some pike have already entered the bays, spawned and gone back out to the lake, but there are still a pile of fish to be had.   The pike season on LOW is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one fish allowed more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. On the Rainy River...  Another great week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  The bite has been very good and lots of fish of all sizes are being boated.     Sturgeon are being caught from Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River all the way to Birchdale, about 42 miles.  There are many boat ramps along the river to make life easy.  Starting from the east going west...   -Nelson Park at Birchdale (About 30 miles east of Baudette) -Frontier (9 miles west of Birchdale) -Vidas (Near Clementson Rapids) -Timbermill Park (East Baudette) -Peace Park (International Drive, Baudette) -Wheeler's Point (mouth of Rainy River)  The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Up at the NW Angle...  The Angle is ice free.  Resorts are gearing up for the fishing opener which is expected to be excellent.  The late ice bite was very good and the walleyes are in good numbers amongst the islands area of the NW Angle.

Charcoal Briquettes are great for low and slow cooking as they produce long-lasting heat. Lump Charcoal burns hotter and adds more flavour to your food; therefore is great for hot and fast cooking.
