I didn't fish but I went out and did a little looking around.

Bingham lake and 3 3/4 almost 4 inches by the landing. There were some people heading out to do a little fishing when I left.

Fish lake by ormsby had 3 and a half.

Buffalo by ormsby had 3 and a half.

Cedar had 2 and a half

Long had 2. There is still some open water where the geese are.

St. James had 3 inches but there is also a open spot where the geese are. Also the lake froze in sections so it won't be very consistent. I check in the part that has been frozen the longest.

Thanks TJ. Glad to get some local reports! I think I will be drilling some holes and dropping some lines this week on the smaller lakes but wouldn't mind getting on st james or mountain lake soon too.

Was out on Bloody today. Didn't travel too far across the lake and I stuck about 75 yards from the landing. 4 inches of ice. Caught a couple small crappies but I wasn't in the area I wanted to be in. Next week when there is enough ice to travel across the lake I'll be there.

I went out on Cottonwood (Lyon County) today and chiseled a hole and it was around 3 inches, but I didn't venture too far off shore quite yet.

Not sure if we are talking about the same Mountain Lake. There are no islands on the Mountain Lake in the town of Mountain Lake along highway 60. That lake has a max of 7'and a few minor points but no islands.

Ok sorry I was refering to the point "big Penisula" by the golf course which I have always known as the second island. First island which is not an island either is by the access.

Ok I understand what "island" you are referring to. I haven't been on the ice yet but hopefully in the next few days. This storm doesn't help my cause. Checked to see if anyone was on St. James but didn't see any holes or foot prints yet.

Yeah, I couldn't stay off the lakes forever grin There was a nice solid 4" on St. James after I drilled about 7 or 8 holes to make sure before setting up. Had the underwater camera along and saw quite a few gills and bass but only had one blue gill take my Gulp Alive waxxies. Had a few more nibble but not commit. Once I get some wax worms and a nice day I'll try my luck again!

Planning on going out all day sat. Do you guys think this snow will affect the ice conditions. I know this question is going around alot, but even with 8" of snow, it is really light and windy also 0* out. The lake i'm going to had 5" of ice as of last night. Please advise.

Thanks,

Ryan

The 4" of ice on St James seems to have held up even with a good amount of snow. I found a few clear spots and set up there tonight. Ended up being in about 7' of water with some weeds around me. Good time saw a lot of fish come in and caught a few. Waiting for live bait and more of a freeze to feel safer to venture out over deeper water.

Are minnows available at the Y store?

The only thing they would bite on last night was minnows for us. Reef fishing in 30’. Plenty of action, nothing real big.

The Miss gets tough when the water is high and dirty.  Your entire range you’re considering can be good but I think right now you’re gonna need to fish tight to the bank in the eddys.  Or maybe the downstream ends of islands.  They probably won’t be in the main flow much.   I’ve been tempted to get out there myself but she looks like she needs to settle down a bit first.

Yes I know, I am wondering about spots from St. Cloud and north, along the Mississippi, I am from Duluth and just thought I’d mention it

Sorry I do not river fish much. I know the Mississippi near Baxter\Brainerd is good as the Linders fish it.  Good luck.

Anyone here willing to recommend a good launch or town to find some smalie’s next week on the big river? Looking for somewhere preferably closer to Duluth, I’ve fished rivers around here this week and only have a couple 14” fish to show for it and a few skunks  . Only place I’ve found fish up here is right up on creek mouths, nothing else seems to work, really muddy water. Will be fishing out of a shallow hull 14’ boat with a 15 hp tiller, looking at anywhere from Grand Rapids to St. Cloud and trying to narrow it down, pretty inexperienced smallie and river angler but I have some time off next week and wouldn’t mind spending another day on the water, and hopefully end up with some decent fish to show for it (will be released). Thanks for any input

Well we will be arriving for the week tomorrow. Fishing mostly east end.  We will be hitting all of our favorite bobber spots.  Going to bring some jumbo leeches. Figure we will be getting smallmouth and walleye.  Staying in Daisy bay.  Is the water temp about 65?  Is there really any point of getting minnows?

No unfortunately it was the other one in Richmond. I really like them, but this time I guess wasn’t their best.  I ordered the wire on Amazon today. Went to 5 places in St Cloud after work and no one had it.
