heres my buck this year. never posted a picture on here so i thought id try. Boring picture, but i shot it second weekend north of emmaville. Pretty excited because it is my biggest buck harvested and it was running at me after it got scared (believe it or not) by a beaver knocking down a tree. It got within 15 yards before it realized something was not right and slammed on its brakes. Good memories! Casey

Interesting story. Many a buck falls to a hunter in an odd way. Nothing like a little help from a beaver. Thanks for sharing

Nice lookin buck. I love the early fall coats on them. Got one mounted a few years back and the cape is silky smooth and shows alot more definition than my other mounts.

Thanks guys. I did not stick this guy but he was a group effort. My brother in law and I put some time in this summer with stands, food plots and patterning the bucks on his land. There are two different bachelor groups on this 120. He took the stand on the bean edge. He was really pumped about the efforts of pattering and stand location that we put in this year. I took the food plot because my camera had shown that one group was hitting that plot Thurs night friday morn and sat moring. Had to work Sat am so we hunted Sat afternoon. We both had does and fawns coming buy and at 7 he heard a steady confident walk coming from behind him out to the beans. Had two bucks coming at him and had about 10 seconds to make the decision to shoot or pass. His shot was a slight quartering to him at 15yds. The arrow went in up to the fletchings. He got down and marked the blood for about 15 yds and then waited for dark and worked his way back to my stand on the way out. After I get down we were walking back and he told me that he hit one and lets go eat some dinner and do some night tracking. So now I am stoked. we hit the woods at 9 really excited. So excited that we didn't hook up the trailer with the ranger, left his bow for pictures, and backpack with his knife..... We are real pro's. We decide to go track him, found the marked last blood and trailed him for another 40-45 yds or so and I found him laid out and pretty stiff so I think it went down pretty quick. So this is where I really feel that this is my buck (kidding) we drag him out to the bean edge NOT DRESSED. Then start the drag for about a quarter mile or so to the fence line that we to get to for the ranger. Needless to say we werent making a lot of headway in the soft soil. I told him go back to the house get the ranger and a blade and I will see if I can get him to the fence by the time you get back. 45 minutes later I made it about 60 from the fence. I honestly had to give up because I started thinking of stories of guys that passed from heart attacks. I am only 37 and half decent shape, I pushed so hard to make it to that fence by the time he got back that I darn near passed out, threw up and was wondering if I was going to live. After dressing him out it was a quick 60 drag and ride back to the truck. I hope i didnt scare every animal out of the woods with my breathing so that I can get a shot at one of the couple shooters that are his big brothers.

Now I have a knive in my truck, backpack, and in my clothing tote to put on my belt. I also am not going to hunt that far back into land and south of the cattle fence so I have quick access by truck or ranger, lesson learned.

My son filled a doe tag during Iowa's youth season Saturday night. Perfectly placed shot at about 80 yards. He also passed on several smaller bucks waiting for Mr. Big, so we'll be back out after 'em here in the coming days.

Another deer from Iowa's youth season. This time my daughter's turn...her first buck. A perfectly placed 60 yard shot with the muzzleloader had this fat 6 pointer down within sight

We were driving around last night and saw this guy. He was standing broadside, looking at us, about 20 yards from the road. It would have been a great pic, but he didn't want to stick around for photo shoot.
