after compiling all of the gun and shooting posts to this new forum, it became clear that this question pops up a lot. Public and I believe private shooting ranges need to register with the state and with that, the DNR has compiled a list on their website in a search engine that allows you to search by county.

Thought this fit well as an FYI for some of the FM audience.

There is a very nice facility here in WC MN for shooting. Grant County Shooters Association (GCSA) which is a private range requiring membership or with a member as a guest paying day user. The membership is very reasonable.

Both long and short range rifle areas. LR out to 600 yards and SR out to 200 yards. A clay pigeon auto thrower with 5 stations, archery target, & pistol shooting area. See for yourself by some pics here as they speak more than words.

Clubhouse and biffy-

The pigeon thrower is right out front of the clubhouse here and the archery and pistol area just north of the biffy (right)in pic.

WG,

I notice that the grass was green on your range in January 2008. I am looking for a place to check some reloads. Is the grass still green up there this year? Thanks for any help. crazy

White sand and 85 degrees.....

I need one of my kid's to show me how to use the camera date stamp or shut it off. Ya have to be 2% smarter than the thing you are operating. Most gadgets have me by at least that. smile

I thought the date stamp was:

Day/Month/Year that is what I tell people when my date stamp is way off.

Think that is the range I checked into but was turned off by it not allowing kids to shoot. With a parent I dont get it.

Back2Dakota:

GCSA does allow kids to shoot and many kids do shoot there. Here are the criteria: rules at GCSA to abide by insurance regulations-the kids need to be 10 years old to be "at the range". They need to be 11 years old with a gun safety certificate and adult supervision to "shoot". Either paying member and/or have went through orientation and pay day pass fee.

Believe it or not if you do not have these rules in place you will see a child or two out in front of the firing line when someone is at the bench shooting. I know it may be somewhat strict but we cannot afford to have any accidents. I would suspect many other private ranges would be following similar rules. Public ranges will likely differ in that respect.

Thats a nice looking range. I wish I lived on enough land to build my own!

Thanks for link and I have looked at the DNR site initially but the information is very thin. No information on type of range, if it has a rifle range at all, cost, what distances are the ranges available, etc. It would be nice if the DNR expanded their standard format to include these. I'd rather not go through the entire list calling people to find this out...

Sorry PicksBigWagon, I gotta ask...

I just moved to Brooklyn Park, Mn this year and I am looking for a rifle range to sight-in up this way ( I had gone to Dakota Gun club in the past). I need min 100 yd, but 200 yd would be nicer.

Anybody got good suggestions with 30 min of Brooklyn Park? I am not opposed to joining a club as long as the dues aren't too excessive.

No problemo, I usually do an internet search after I find the name of the gun club off the DNR site, that usually nets me a link to their website.

Oakdale gun club has days open to the public. They have a 100 and 200 available. Pay per person ($15 I think) not per gun, so you can shoot a few if you have them.

It's 29 miles (40 min) from Brooklyn Park.

You're not going to find much within 30 min of BP. Oakdale, Minnetonka Game and Fish and Dakota County with all have Deer Rifle sight in days starting this coming weekend.

Most ranges now have multiple year waiting lists to get in.

I'm a member at Dakota County and will be on the line for sight-in all day on Sat.

I shoot down at Ahlmans gun shop/range. A yearly range pass is $30 and they give you your own range key so you can shoot any daylight hours (even out of their store hours) and on Sundays.

It is not the cleanest/nicest range in the world, but there is rarely anyone there.

They have a 30yd pistol bay, 60yd rifle bay, and a 100/200yd bay. The down side is that only one shooter is allowed at the bay per time.

Tator, My 14 year old and I were at your club for the 1st time this sunday Oct 21st sighting in our rifles. I love the setup you guys have where the members help you out with the spotting scope and sighting in.. I really wanted to let you know about the awsome experience we had with one of your members named Brian. He was so helpfull and so very nice to my son and I that we were blown away. With a couple of guys that are bowhunters and just getting back into rifle hunting for the first time I cant begin to tell you how much we really enjoyed the experience at your club. Im hoping you can pass the word to Brian and the other members how much we enjoyed our experience. I tried to send your club a thank you email but your "contact Us" email doesnt seem to be working- Thanks again. Eyes
