T-Jack looked very good in the last 4 regular season games he played in last year.

I'd say with playing behind Favre now and the seasoning he gets watching how an elite QB does it, our T-Jack haters will be eating an even MORE solid diet of crow soon enough, when T-Jack does get the start. grin

I wouldn't say junkson looked very good the last 4 games...you could say junkson looked better then before...which wouldn't be saying much....keep on dreaming you junksonites!!

I don't think anyone is gonna be eating any crow, MN doesn't get to watch too many browns' games (which is about the only team junkson has a chance to start for).

LOL,

the T-Jack haters were dreaming about getting Brady Quinn including FG and JW, great football minds that they are wink

Glad we got Favre instead of meeting FISHINGURU's wishes and giving up a pick for Quinn. grin

Still picking crow out of their teeth I see. laugh

You guys don't know how well those guys would be on a REAL team. The Vikes are a real team and Favre has brought that out of us. Something Tjack COULD'NT do. You can whine and say we haven't been healthy while Tjack was in, but that's a crock.

No way dude... Manning is up there on the level Favre plays. Favre made this team so good compared to what Tjack did it's not even debatable. It opened my eyes big time, we never had a "great" quarterback before, well not in my generation. Seeing one play every week sure is nice.

So with the loss of Braylon from the Browns I would almost compare there anemic recieving Corp to that of the 2006 Vikings....you really think if you put Favre on that team they are competitive?

Any team would be more competative with Brette Favre than without him.

i'd still take quinn over junkson anyday, you guys are hilarious.

quinn did no worse on the worst team in football as junkson did on one of the better teams...wake up and smell the coffee junkson held our team back.

its funny when all the other qb's even retired ones dream to play on a team like ours...favre will come out of retirement...steve young said he should come out of retirement to play for us because it would be to easy.

junkson hasn't even learned to read defenses because all they need to do is 8 and 9 man fronts....thats it...other qb's get to see alot more then junkson.

i wanted favre to play for us also so quit pretending.....99% of MN wanted ANYONE but JUNKSON....period.

we all got our wish while you junksonites eat crow every game he sits on the bench! DINNER IS SERVED!

Actually as you know every game T-Jack is on the Vikings roster YOU all are eating Crow. T-Jack is right where he belongs, on the bench and in the number 2 slot behind The Man!

By the way how's the trade or release of T-Jack going for ya?....LOL!.. smile

Man what are you talking about?? I don't ever recall saying anything about bringing either of these 2 in. Is this what it has come down to Rick? You have to start making things up???

deadhorse is right....give it up with the receiving core bit. with the running game given to junkson, peyton manning would have done just fine with any NFL receiving core. funny how you forget that part every time when talking about the recievers.

There's no doubt Favre did what few other QBs could do for us.

The fact remains that the T-Jack haters like fishinguru and james_walleye have said and continue to say that T-Jack is not starter quality.

I say he is and I will happily continue watching you T-Jack haters eat even more crow when he does start.

My opinion is, it will not matter, I dont think the Vikes will re-sign T-jack after this season. If Favre decides to play another season here, the Vikes are not going to give T-Jack the money he will seek, nor will he be worth it. If Favre actually decides to retire after this season for good, then I dont see Ziggy going back to letting T-Jack lead the team. Either way, I see us going after a QB in the draft this spring, and if Favre retires, we will find a veteran QB for a short term deal.

Jackson may, or may not be a starter next season, but I dont think it will be in MN!

I could be wrong and you certainly might be right but the signs I'm seeing right now point to T-Jack being groomed as our QB of the future.

I know the T-Jack haters will knash their teeth at the thought of eating so much crow if that happens smile

If T-Jack had been our starting QB this season based on his past performances we would be battling the Packers for the division and probably get knocked out in the first round if we made it. There is no question it has been Favre who has made Rice, Harvin, and Shiancoe look as well as they have this year and that is what a great QB does, makes the players around him better especially the recieving core. Tavaris is not going to bring out the best of our recievers or the players on any other NFL team. Why would we or any other team want that to be the course of action?? Now if a team wants to just "get by" with a decent QB who isn't going to raise the confidence of the rest of his team then Tavaris would be a good choice. smile

Agreed Favre brings the best out in the entire team.

T_jack will likely start again for the same reason Young is a starting QB again.

Young looked aweful before he regained his starting gig again. Now he looks decent. Imagine that.

All I'm saying is, don't be surprised when you see T-Jack starting again down the road. He won't be Favre but very few QBs are or ever will be at that level.

You pretty much hit it. If you want to just challenge for the division title and have no shot in the playoffs, junkson is your guy. He has shown zero ability that he can lead this team to anything but that.

What signs are you seeing that point to jackson being groomed as our qb of the future? The fact he's sitting on the bench? The fact that he draws mop up duty? I guess I haven't heard Childress mention anything about grooming him for anything in the past year or so.

I don't think anybody will be eating crow just because tjack would be starting if Favre retires. I think the whole point is whether or not jackson would be a quality starter. If he does become one here, alot of us will eat crow. However, I don't think anyone but you will be in line for the crow. Maybe 58 as well.

Are you really looking forward to viking mediocrity again Rick? Such a self-proclaimed viking fan looking forward to seeing the team go back to having zero chance of making a playoff run? It really seems as though you are the closet packer fan. Why would a true viking fan look forward to this?

The signs are clear. Childress has been signed to a long term contract and Childress sees T-Jack as a McNabb clone. Of course he's going to be quiet about it. He has Favre now.

If T-Jack can become McNabb like then I will certainly look forward to it.

Anyone who says they know for certain T-Jack can't or can make it as a starter is kidding themselves.

I've done my part to lower the lake level by pressure washing my dock all the way up to my upper deck. I figure that lowered Vermilion by at least 1/4" lake-wide....

On the south end...   This week was a great week of walleye fishing on Lake of the Woods.  In addition, saugers, jumbo perch, some monster pike and an occasional crappie in the mix!     There are three fishing techniques being used to score Lake of the Woods gold (walleyes).  First, drifting or slow trolling crawler harnesses.  In a nutshell, using about a 2 ounce weight and a 3-4 foot harness with a spinner, two hooks and a crawler.     A tip for crawler harnesses, hook the dark part or head of the crawler on the front hook.  Try to keep the crawler straight between the two hooks.  Try to leave a few inches of crawler off of your last hook and pinch off the rest.  The walleyes and saugers will still hit it, but you will create more hookups.   The second presentation is a jig and minnow or frozen emerald shiner.  Basically locate fish out on the mud or on structure, anchor up and jig.  If you are amongst fish, they will find you.     The third way walleyes are being caught, and some may be surprised about, is trolling crankbaits.  Some have put on the trolling gear when the walleyes weren't as cooperative or when the fish are spread out.  Lots of success catching good numbers of walleyes and good sized fish.     Lots of fish out over deep mud or deep structure.  The deep mud is holding a lot of walleyes in 21' - 27'.  Electronics will help you mark fish.     There is another shallow water bite still taking place anywhere from 5 - 17'.  Much of the shallow bite has to do with feeding opportunities on various minnow spawns, crawfish and hatches.  Not every walleye is targeting the same prey.  Lots of opportunities.  .   Gold, orange, chartreuse, glow and pink, or a combo of these colors, are a great place to start.   Anglers can keep a combined limit of 6 walleyes and saugers.  Up to 4 can be walleyes.  All walleyes 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  One fish over 28 inches may be kept.  The possession limit in MN is one day's possession.  If you catch a limit, eat some fish and freeze a couple, make sure to count your remaining fish left over for your possession.   On the Rainy River...  With some rain in the area, the river was flowing with a strong current and some debris this past week.  Debris has slowed considerably and water clarity is starting to improve.     Water clarity is important for walleyes, saugers, pike and smallmouth bass.  Sturgeon are much more dialed into scent to find their next meal, consequently, when the sturgeon season opens again on July 1st for the keep season, things should be good.   The fishing happening on the river is focused in areas just out of the current.  Most fish will hang just off, able to grab a passing meal but not having to expend too much energy.  Current can be good as it focuses fish in areas.   Jigging with a minnow is effective when you are on fish.  Otherwise, pulling spinners and trolling crankbaits along shoreline breaks against the current in 6 - 12' of water is producing a mixed bag of walleyes, saugers, pike, smallmouth bass and an occasional crappie.  Up at the NW Angle...  Fishing for a variety of species has been excellent and is in full summer swing up at the Angle.   For those fishing out of the NW Angle, both the Minnesota and Ontario waters of Lake of the Woods are producing a number of nice walleyes.  Many fish have slid off onto deeper structure.  With that said, there are so many areas of forage on LOW, walleyes will be in numerous spots, some shallow and some deeper, taking advantage of opportunities.  Lots of fish to be had, just go fishing.   Jigging structure has been effective.  When fish are a bit spread out, pulling spinners with crawlers or trolling crankbaits is catching a lot of fish.     In this part of the lake, expect to catch walleyes, saugers, pike, jumbo perch, crappies, pike and smallmouth bass.   Muskie anglers are after it and reporting good numbers, and in true LOW style, some big fish over the 50 inch mark.  Summer patterns are starting to take hold, but fish are holding in a variety of areas still.

We got .5” last night. Hasn’t affected the lake level yet. It’s been steady the past three days here (Frazer Bay). RLG

Water Levels I believe are now at a record high with all the rain last week, and more fell last night.  I hope it stops raining soon for all the people who have businesses and live in the area.  Water can do so much damage.

MarkB, Where did you find the perch?  I would love to get into some of those.  MarkB are you fishing more on the east or west end?

Where are the water temps now with all the rain?  Coming up for a week on Friday and want to see what I can find out.  I have had a very poor fishing so far this year.  New to the area and just can't figure it out.  Home is on the west end of big bay.
