Very well might beat the state record, but it won't go in the books as like CMJ said it must be caught.

Very cool fish though! Congrats to the lucky angler!

I have not seen a gar up close. What danger do they present to a swimmer ? Are they aggressive or would danger be from accidental contact. They bite or bad to step on or what?

Do they hang out in the shallows or deep ?

Curious looking creature...

Ok, from what I googled I found that an attack would be a result of pulling one into the boat or stepping on one. I did not find where they will attack out of spite. What I did find on Snopes (search on GAR) was a nice picture of a Gar that probably would find Mongo to be suitable snack.

If the link won't fly here try snopes keyword gar.

I would rather see you post the information direct rather than using the link. Thank you.

A fish that size would need a much bigger meal than that Mongo.

Oh man, that's brutal.

We used to catch smaller ones out in South Dakota - usually by accident. A friend of mine tried cleaning and eating one - it took a tin snips to get through the skin - and after trying it like "poor man's lobster" - it probably wasn't worth the effort...

That Lakemaid I caught was pretty nice though....

So... Does anybody have any more information about this fish? Was it taken at night or during the day?
