Has anyone had any experience fishing Roy Lake on the border of Mahnomen and Clearwater counties? I thought I might go up there soon for a day or so. Thoughts?

There are a lot of walleyes in the lake, along with some nice northerns. I don't have any experience on the lake myself but know quite a few people that fish it and they like to pull spinners and leeches along the weed beds.

It seems like such a pretty lake too but every time I've driven past it seems almost unused. I was just curious why. The water seems a bit murky?

It's a shallow lake, doesn't get much deeper than 15 feet. It's a beautiful lake, not sure why it's underused but it is that's for sure. I know my dad used to fish it all of the time, he always fished it before the weed beds started to form. Not sure why, I would try it but I've got plenty of lakes to fish that are a little closer to home.

I went out on Roy today. Beautiful day but no real fish. Could have just been a tough day. I was wondering about the water quality. It seems to be pretty cloudy with a lot of that green cotton-candy-looking stuff attached to rocks and the bottom (filamentous algae?) Is that common to this lake?
