I was camera fishing it in around 25ft, set up the camera at 22. To say tight lipped would be an understatement. But from 230-3 in the afternoon it was nonstop, one after another. All 5-8 inch crappies, saw a couple gills come through but didnt want anything to do with it. Caught I suppose 10 on silver wigglers on a small tear drop and 30 on full minnows. Most of the hot bite time was all on whole crappie minnows. I saw maybe 1 or 2 quality fish come through.

Yes, they are tough to say the least.

Minnow heads on pink jigs have worked the best for me. Over jigging spooks them, a dead stick they wont touch or just nibble at. Gentle, slow motions seem to be best. They like to attack it on the down motion over the up motion. Smaller hooks you won't get a good hook set and the spit it out, too big, and, well is too big...

I have not been out in a week. Really hoping for an hour or so on Thursday.

sounds like the pressure the last few years has diminished the numbers of 13+ crappies out there.....we hardly ever got any in the 8-10" range when we fished it back in 08-09

I was out on Monday, Ice was 11" out from Hoy's. People still driving 1/2 ton crew cabs around, pretty scary if you ask me.

I was out Saturday and Sunday, nice mix to be had. Sunday I noticed that the water was again very cloudy; I could only see down about 1-2 feet below the ice. Sunday was slower than Saturday, I'll blame it on the water clarity. Had a muskie or big pike hit a small crappie I was pulling up on Sunday, severed line immediately, 10 feet below the ice.

I had the same thing happen sunday while reeling in a crappie. Had the fish on for about 5 minutes before he spit it out.

Anyone want to hit French early Sunday? Got clouds. Got low pressure. Got ATV. Got Clam Denali, room for four and it's just the kid and me. Not that I send much time in the shelter if it's 40F outside. Or another Faribault area hotspot?

I was out on Friday and sunday and caught quite a few good size crappies and a few walleyes. I had to sort threw a bunch of smaller crappies but they were not as small as the ones they are catching in the deep holes. 16 to 18 fow was key to the diversity of fish. wallters would bite during the magic hour right before sunrise and right at sunset.

Ice ranges from open/honey combed to 4" in the Faribault area. Venture out during the day, with a friend. Bring a spud bar, wear ice picks. Also make sure you let another person know where your going and when you plan on returning! No ice is 100% safe.

French is open and the dock is in. Pretty sure all Faribault area lakes are open.

How is the landing at French? Shallow? Was out there last spring and had to push my boat halfway off before backing in.

Was out on French yesterday afternoon, we saw one surface like a dolphin probably trying to catch some rays.

Slow week out there, moved two fish in 20+ hours of fishing, got backed into at the landing, had stuff stolen out of my truck, and to top it off the two fish I saw were 30" or smaller. Thats Faribault for ya!

I should probably learn to use the 6+ containers of lures I have collecting dust in my tackle box. We got on a decent crappie bite the last couple of evenings and I broke out some plastics.  I caught some crappies on them ,just need to build my confidence in using them! I did notice they didn't seem to hold on to them as long as minnows!

      Great news, thank Skunked

Minnows are 50 cents each, and leeches are $50 a pound.

Absolutely. I get full bars all-along the drive from Cook to The Landing, and out into Head O Lakes bay. I can't say that I've stared much at my phone signal anywhere else besides on my way to Black Bay. We still don't get much for service there because there are a lot of steep slopes with tall trees in the way. That was expected though. The tower is definitely providing better service to the area in general IMO.

Any updates on this new tower? Has it helped AT and T customers throughout the lake get better service?

Thanks for the heads up. Cigar.

Went in to Lucky 7 to get some crappie minnows today. All they had were crappie minnows and fatheads. She said to call in advance for the opener, couldn't say for sure if they'd have rainbows, shiners, etc for opener!

I hope to see it and believe it next week! Nice looking crappie
