New to the site and looking for some help fishing Lake Washington. I want to take my kids out and catch some fish. They are 4 and 6 so any action will keep them happy.

Welcome aboard!

Is there a reason you're set on Lake Washington?

Check the Narrows, 2-4' should be holding some 'gills.

Welcome to FM!

Thanks for the welcome. I was looking at Washington because I have a bigger boat and it's easy to get into the lake there. I am open to suggestions on other lakes in the area as well.

Madison, German and Francis all have nice landings as well as good populations of panfish, especially if size isn't much of a factor, only keeping the kids busy

Good thought.

Much of the most productive water on Lake Washington never gets touched. HINT: Focus on tile line inlets especially after a rain. By the way, we need a good drink from up above.

Shallow cattails and any inside weedlines are a safe bet right now for pannies too.

I have sometime on my hands now that my kids are mostly out so I am trying new lakes this year. Never fished this one before but I was down by the access on the NW side on last saturday and I am going to give it a try this weekend. Just wondering if there are low water areas or rocks or anything else that I need to watch out for out there. I will be on my own so hopefully I do not tick anyone off at the landing when I am loadind and unloading.

The only spots that are very low is the narrows. It can also get very shallow by Squirrels Nest point but it is marked with bouys. Around second point it can also get shallow along with the grassy island area.

I would use the Westwood landing as there is more room to land your boat and usually a bit deeper water if you have a larger boat.

Which side of the lake is the westwood landing?

Posted

Found it! This is a very big lake and if anyone cares to point me in a starting direction for some possible eyes I would apprieciate maybe an email with this screen name and at the "y" place! Thanks

Try the points on the north side of the lake.... 20 fow with a jig and leech or crawler or minnow

Low and behold washington produced 2 walleyes for me yesterday..22fow, lead core line, rapala.

Posted

Nice work Truth gotta love it when the leadcore pulls through!

Posted

Yeah it's just nice to catch a walleye or two every now n'then around here!

I guess we should have said screw the wind and gone to Washington instead of Mille Lacs over the weekend.

I picked up 3 smaller ones this am in the rain. Pulling cranks in 14-17fow. Size was 17-17.5 and 19. Nothing big but a few nice meals.

I went mainly to check out the new circut breaker for the trolling motor and my Lowrance 522 after I did a hard reset to see if things were working again.

It all worked and a few fish ta boot.

Nice to hear Tom. We're the fish up the water column?

Posted

Most of the larger fish were approx 4-6 ft of the bottom. I did mark some fish higher but I would guess they were panfish.

This summer has been one of the best for years for me catching eyes and gills. It's been fun with almost all trips catching numerous fish.

Is squirrels nest still the best option on launching a boat?

Posted

Westwood marina. Its hands down the nicest landing on the lake with good docks. The north landing can be ok but when the water gets low, its tough.

West wood also has bait, food, pop etc.

Posted

Is Westwood on the northside off of 103? Never been therer before

Posted

I don't know the road numbers but if you come from hwy 22 and go east, the road will run right to the landing. Maybe someone who knows the road number will chime in.

Its on the NW side of the lake.

Posted

You want Cty Rd 101/Squirrels Nest Rd. Takes you right off 22 to the landing.

Posted

Or take my directions - drive down that road until you see that one house, then take a right...

Posted

That house is not far from where the sheep are on the west side of the road.

Mud Bay had 7" of good ice. very slow bite. Anyone have any luck so far?

Posted

Are people driving 4 wheelers out yet

Posted

Yeah I seen about 3 or 4 of them out there this morning. The bite was very slow everywhere I went.

Lots of suspended forage on Washington this year. Be sure you're searching the entire water column and even right under the ice, especially during low light and through the night.
