Lake Nokomis Fishing Reports

Recommended Posts

last season first ice when you punched a hole the water came up green with bits.

the water looked 10x cleaner past two days. Maybe the later ice gave the lake water a chance to settle down clear better prior to ice formation?

I remember that - it looked like antifreeze coming through the hole. That lasted quite a while, as I recall.

Hey Eric- I'm hoping to get a shot at the lake on Saturday - my wife is going to let me fish on my birthday, as long as it's somewhere close. Unless, of course, she's in labor. Feel like going?

I lived near Nokomis last year and fished it until ice up, and then all winter. There was heavy algae floating on the surface during the fall and that popped through our holes at the start of hard water season. I wasn't out there this fall, but assume that the lower summer temperatures kept the algae bloom in check.

Sweet I'll be looking for Base-camp! Or will you be using a smaller shelter?

Pier- that would be the one. Unless it's decent enough that I don't need a shelter... it's nice not to haul too much stuff. And I need to be ready to split at the drop of a hat.

Ben,

I will for sure see what the kids have going on saturday, as right now their stuff is the center of our universe..... but I'll try real hard! Sounds like a great idea. Out of the three kids I have, I have not been fishing while any of them decided to pop out, work yes, fishing no...

Cool, man. If you can go, that'd be sweet... but I'm going anyway. Give me a call later this week if you can make it.

Hello all,

New to the group here...first post, have people had good luck out on Nokomis in the past? I have always wanted to try it being I live so close but never had. Also are there any restictions on Nokomis in the winter I didnt see anything for it in the regs. but I thought I heard somewhere you could not fish for Muskies. Just curious I normally fish for the eyes but throw a tip up out as well. Thanks for any info...

I thought I heard somewhere you could not fish for Muskies.

One can only intentionally fish for muskies between June 6 and December 1. Per page 18 of the reg book.

This is statewide, not just Nokomis. I think it has to do with poor survival.

Of course you can fish for northern and you can't stop a muskie from biting... I don't know if I would recommend doing this on Nokomis though. The DNR did not catch a single northern out there during the 2007 surveys, and you might have a tough time convincing the CO that you are targeting fish that aren't in the lake.

Thanks for the info, I missed that part in the regs. I have never targeted Muskies per say just Pike. I know there is not any Pike in Nokomis so I would not even bother putting out a tip up. Just wanted to make sure before I go out.

On another note where would one want to be on Nokomis looking for the eyes?

This is my first ice season in the metro. I'm looking to get out this weekend. Nokomis would be a pretty close option for. Any bait shops near the lake? Also, any general tips or parking and where to walk on would be appreciated. I'll be in the one-man Pro wandering around punching holes. Stop by and say Hi!

Moore's has more tackle, and more ice tackle and is closer to Nokomis, plus Bob is a cool guy. (the folks at the other place are nice too)

Has anybody had good luck with decent crappies, sunfish or perch out on nokomis? If so, what have you used for bait? Any tips on a good part of the lake for panfish?

No gas motors of any kinds except for gas augers. That's been covered extensively on this site.

I fish Nokomis this morning before work. There was 6-7 inches of ice on the west end. 2/3rds of the ice was clear with the top 1/3rd a white ice.

The season is open fellers

Must be a FM'ers gettogether tonight on Nokomis, is everyone trying out gear(beer) for the season or actually trying to figure out the lake?

a lot of people out tonight... i think i counted 15 groups out there. i was fishing just west of the boat landing (between the dock and the shore) in 11' of water. marked a few fish and ended up with a huge 4" perch and a monster 6" walleye. boy did that walleye put up a fight! i had a hard time throwing it back because it would have looked great on my wall. i may kick myslef later for passing on that fish of a lifetime! in case you havent picked up on it i am just kidding. if anyone is interested i was using a small minnow head on a small orange/white jigging spoon. both were caught around 4pm.

I just read that too. It'll be interesting to see what comes of that. Will the tigers and walleyes get to the cats before the cats get to the bullheads? Will it make any difference whatsoever? We'll see.

I would love to ice some cats so close to home.

Was out today at around 2 with my portable. The ice was about 7 1/2 in thick. Was in about 10 feet of water and caught 1 little perch and that was it.
