Looper Hook

What are you guys using for looper hooks - size/brand/style/color

when I use a plain hook..# 6 red octopus. Gammy, etc..

I just use a good #6, or a #4 on big spawn sacks, salmon style hook that everyone makes. VMC has a good one I have been using and its priced right. All makers have them and they will work. I like something a bit lighter. I dont like the "extra strong" type hooks they are too heavy for my liking. I do like them on spinner rigs though.

I will experiment with color of hook though. These are my favs in order. Pink, orange, red, glow white, plain, chart.

I also will run a small beed above the hook at times but a beed that floats when Im using bottom rigs.

If your in town Marine General on London Road has everything you need and they are up to date on the bite and whats working.

Marine General is hit or miss - they carry what you need but that does not mean they will have it when you go there. It's best to call first - this time of year they are out of a lot of that kind of stuff - at least the fair priced stuff where you can get 50 or 100 hooks in a pack.

Whatever you do dont try to get any at Gander. Worst walleye, looper, salmon hook selection I have ever seen. Unless ya want Gammy's in a 8 pack.

Fishermans Corner always has #6 and #4 salmon style hooks in 100 packs.

Marine General was supposed to be ordering more last week when I was in there they said they would.

I'm big on the #8 gammys, in plain. they hide well in the spawn bags, and float well.

the brads hooks don't hold up worth a darn.

That's funny I've had real good luck with brad's.
