This year I would want Cuddy at the plate in key situations instead of Young. Like said b-4 he has the ability to do well, but not right now. Maybe in a couple of years his defense will come around and maybe develop some power in his hitting. Until then it is work in progress.

Glenn Baseball players are paid way to much now. Can I come to you for a raise, I like your figuring. crazygrinwink

RISP Delmon is batting 303 RISP w/2 outs 306 Bases Loaded 333

Cuddles with RISP 260 RISP w/2 outs 187 Bases Loaded 154

So yeah... by these numbers would you really want Cuddles up there hacking? AND these numbers are current, so yes that includes Cuddles hottest 2 weeks of hitting in his life and his numbers are still not even close to Delmons.......

So Gary as of right now.....what numbers were you using to figure out who has been better with RISP? I think you call that the proverbial BOX.

I like Delmons bat some-what he seems to have a lot of athletic talent as far as that goes and he may be a bona-fide designated hitter some day. His situational hitting is terrible to say the least and he has a LOOONG way to go to even be considered a good hitter. It's just the rest of his package from attitude to basic fundamentals that concerns me. He can't carry Cuddys JOCK-STRAP in 95 percent of what it takes to be a Big League player at this point but there is a glimmer of hope for him to be a decent DH some day because of his youth....

So at this point I don't, like most rational thinking baseball fans have the Man LUV like the 3 of you Cuddy BASHERS have at this point for an almost NONE dimensional ball player...

Talk about being boxed..this thread should be the defintion of the 3 stooges being boxed...LOL! smile

I dont even know how to comment on your post PB, Stats are the facts and I dont know how that can be misinterpeted....Delmon has been a more consistent hitter with people on base this year. And like I said these stats are current and include Cuddles best 2 weeks of hitting with men on base in his life and the averages still are not even close.

Cuddy is like a woman. He'll give you one good year and you'll be disappointed with the rest.

You can get a whole good year out of one shocked

Not true Sled he's had 3 good years out of the last 4 and in that lone so called bad year he was injured.

This will be his 3rd year out of the last 4 with 600 AB's 24 plus dingers and 270-ish batting avr!

I dubbed Morneau manlove back in 06' Dudes could not get enough of him, but it is comparable to Cuddles man love today. PB, do you have your Captain Cuddles undies on today.

speaking of "not true", what is your source for 3 out of the last 4 years having 24+ dingers and 600 AB's? (assuming of course a dinger is a home run and an AB is an at bat)

Mr. Delmon Young is 200 at bats short of Cuddy. Give Delmon 200 more at bats and then we shall talk there stat man. Delmon is doing well for a part time player.

Now Gary that is part of the problem, Delmon deserves a lot more AB's he has been a 280 career hitter when he plays.....

Using the great thing called hindset now, would it have not been great to give Justin a day off here and there and move Cuddles to first and give the younger guys more playing time in the field?

Your right we shall never know if that would help or hurt him playing more. There must be a reason he hasn't had to many at bats. He needs to develop a little more and time is the answer. He is very young and hopefully he will come around. We have time with him to grow, but right now go with what is working.

Delmon needs to sit on the bench until the All Star break, then afterwards he can play. He does ZIP the first few months of the season, but is OK afterwards

So 348 AB's this year and he is batting 273

1694 Career Abs and a average of 288

That is quite a few ABs to form an opinion on, and a career 288 hitter is nothing to sneeze at. And he is 23, drafted #1 and people think this is his ceiling?

RISP stat is one that everybody wants "their" guys to hit 500 and about 750 slugging %.....not realistic for anyone. The "other guys" pitcher is trying to make the "perfect pitch" , get ahead in the count, then throw a HIGH HARD ONE ...or a nasty slider low and away. A lot of outs are gotten that way...remember Pucket??????????his weakness too. Delmon has weaknesses all over...don't throw him a strike and he'll still strike out...waving at 3 straight "ball" pitches, then sitting down. I have to admit Cuddy , with RISP looks too much like Delmon ALWAYS does at the plate. I think he trys too hard, waves at pitches he normally lets go, and strikes out on those sliders down and away. Any team that watches Delmon, doesn't throw him a strike, and he may be hitting 100, with NO WALKS. If he would get better at that, I believe Gardy would give him more playing time.

I noticed something else also recently: Delmon had a hit with a risp.. single, of course..not sure if the guy scored or not. Cuddy was ofer with risp that game....BUT HE HAD 2 rbis anyway....he hit one of his DINGERS with a guy on first. Didn't count in the RISP stat, but he had more impact in the win than DELMON, with his risp stat that day. I wonder how many more games that happened in ?????????? any stats on that anywhere?

Tonight:

Cuddy, 2 run HR to get Twins going...walked with bases LOADED (doesn't count AGAIN for BA with RISP, but rbi. Then Delmon struck out on low slider whistle...3 left on. Cuddy singled, stole 2nd, took 3rd on overthrow. Young tripled..1 rbi, scored on Tolberts hit. Young homered on "cookie" ...He CAN hit them if they are strikes.

Tally: draw????? or Cuddy ahead 3-2 rbi's.

Good thing it is a TEAM GAME...TEAM does well, if everybody does their job...

another good game tonite. I couldn't find it at any of those conspiracy starting stat websites but I hear that if he keeps it up at this pace this will be his 8th year out of the last 9 where he's had 40+ homers and 25 or more stolen bases, 100 + game winning rbi's and 20 saves from the bullpen! and he would have gotten it the 9th year had he not taken that one season off to build churches and homes in those poor 3rd world countries (sorry I just couldn't resist. after all a couple good false stats deserves more right? wink

I'll go on record that I believe that he has defintely earned his salary this year with his strong play these past few weeks and overall season stats. I didn't think he had it in him to get important hits late in the game in key situations but he seems to have found his groove and I truly hope he keeps it up right through the end and hopefully in the playoffs. If he wouldn't have struggled so much with risp earlier this year, he very well may be battling Mauer for AL MVP and this particular post would have been dead a long time ago.

Shamrock Landing and Grubens marina have both sold minnows/bait in past years, not sure about current season
    • SkunkedAgain
I am not aware of anywhere in the west basin to get minnows. Hopefully I am wrong.

The only place on the East end (unless i'm mistaken and don't know of some semi-secret place) that sells minnows on the lake is the Casino bait shop on Everett Bay. Whether they have rainbows is hit and miss. I'm not including Timbuktu as East side   Getting off-lake, the best value for rainbow for me over the last 10 years has been Lucky 7 in Virginia.

On the south end...   Good fishing this week with nice numbers of walleyes and saugers.   A jig and frozen emerald shiner again this week is the go to presentation for walleyes.  Rainbows and fatheads are also working and it is nice to see what the fish want each day.   Various areas across the south shore are holding fish.  Most walleyes and saugers are being caught in 17 - 24' of water.  Anglers are anchoring up and vertical jigging. A quarter ounce jig in gold, glow white, pink, orange, chartreuse, or a combo of these colors tipped with a minnow worked well again.  Pound the bottom, jig it up in the strike zone, hold.  Trying shaking the jig and lifting it off of the bottom.  Any kind of weight will be a fish hanging.  Set the hook! A mixed bag while fishing walleyes include pike, jumbo perch and a few crappies.  On the Rainy River...  Some nice walleyes caught  this week on the river in 10 - 15' of water.  Typical spots such as holes, current breaks, weed edges and rocky areas all can hold fish.  There are 42 miles of navigable waters from the mouth of the river all the way to Birchdale.    Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River is closed until the keep season starts up again July 1st.   The river holds good numbers of smallmouth bass for those interested in bronzebacks.  A lot of bass are caught by unsuspecting walleye anglers. Up at the NW Angle...  A great week of fishing.  As typical with guests staying at the Angle, some fish MN waters, some slide over into Ontario waters.  Both areas are producing.     Points, neck down areas and bays with warming water have been holding walleyes.  With warming waters, fish are in transition and there are lots of fish.   The goto presentation is a jig and minnow.  Gold, glow white, pink and orange are good colors.

I don't fish any secret lakes. I research the lakes on the DNR website with good walleye numbers. I spent a lot of time learning side imaging. I'll scan for an hour or two if need be to find the fish. Nothing crazy for techniques. Either pitching a jig or back trolling with lindy rigs. If either of you two ever want to go let me know

Smurfy, you know where that Kettle guy fishes?  Might have to sneak over there! 🤫

nice fish bud!!!!!!!!👍 i was up last week and we had over 2 inches of rain.........but really helped the lakes!!!!!!!!!!
    • Kettle
So much rain these past few weeks. I only seem to get days off post cold front. Made the most of it recently. Water Temps still in the 50s. Not sure the crappies have even spawned, definitely not the bluegills. Walleye still really shallow
