try straight out across the lake on East from the public access on the North end. Find the perch, and wait for the eyes.

i took my car out. it bottomed out a few times. i found some spots with only 9 inches of black ice with 3 to 4 of white ice on top. careful if you venture of the beaten path. I don't think the ice is very uniform.

Got out tonight from 2 til 6,drove out by wilson in about 25fow away from the crowds took home 7 crappies all about 10 inches, threw back about 25 smaller crappies and a handful of perch. The best bite was from 3:30-4:30 1-4 feet off the bottom.Could only get em to bite on plain white hooks and crappie minnows.

Faster, how is the access of the lake and the parking area of the public landing on West Rush. Is it getting icy?

Yeah it's gettin pretty icy coming down the hill. The parking area is really rough driving around it.The landing didn't seem too icy though, but the lake is really rough the first 50 yards or so coming out on to the road.

any reports of ice thickness from today(sat)? I saw a reliable estimate at Forest of 15-18, think we're there yet on West Rush? Full size trucks all across Lake George (St.Francis)today too.

I was out there today and there was about 16 inches. A few inches of white ice and the rest was black ice. Trucks out everywhere.

Sounds good, JUST STAY AWAY FROM THE GAP AT CIGAR ISLAND! Most of us know this, but if your new to the Rush, BEWARE!

Thanks for the replies fishsystem & bigbad401. Haven't quite decided whether we'll join the masses on Rush today or work some of the lakes a little closer to home. plenty familiar with the open water of the Rush's but never tried icin' it before, I appreciate the tip of where NOT to drive, last thing I want is for the Z71 to become fishing structure! -E-

I was out yesterday afternoon near the island and landed a 39 inch Northern Pike on 4lb test line and a small jig.

I didn't know West Rush has Pike that large.

Some might not beleive me but I landed 2 within an hour of each other and both measured 44" while bass fishing during open water. Rush has some big northerns after the slot started.

Yeah its nice to see the results from slots like that. I have gotten some decent northerns out of here too. Alot of fun throwing bigger spoons and things knowing theres a decent shot at a nice fish!

My truck weighs just shy of 6,000 pounds according to the factory specs..

So assuming I am at 3 tons. Id like to see about 20 inches of ice before I drive out.

Has this been accomplished on rush?

I have been fishing elsewhere due to rush being over crowded and over fished lately.. but would like to sneak back out and show everyone how its done grin

thanks for the ice info in advance.

Anything new from West Rush? I know my father-in-law went out and did well with crappies, perch, and sunnies. Anyone getting any walleyes? I am planning to go out early on Sat morning. Thanks in advance.

Mnfisher, be careful as there is a lot of deep snow drifts out there as I got stuck in one yesterday with my 4wheel drive Jeep. And a BIG thank you to the awesome guy to pull me out!

I have heard it's because of the drought. I know in my area ( meeker co.) the sloughs that they trap minnows in have dried up.
    • SkunkedAgain
Excuse my ignorance, but was is driving the bait prices? Usually the shortage is due to a late ice-out from the swamps and streams. This year should have been much better.

I should probably learn to use the 6+ containers of lures I have collecting dust in my tackle box. We got on a decent crappie bite the last couple of evenings and I broke out some plastics.  I caught some crappies on them ,just need to build my confidence in using them! I did notice they didn't seem to hold on to them as long as minnows!

      Great news, thank Skunked

Minnows are 50 cents each, and leeches are $50 a pound.
    • SkunkedAgain
Absolutely. I get full bars all-along the drive from Cook to The Landing, and out into Head O Lakes bay. I can't say that I've stared much at my phone signal anywhere else besides on my way to Black Bay. We still don't get much for service there because there are a lot of steep slopes with tall trees in the way. That was expected though. The tower is definitely providing better service to the area in general IMO.
    • PSU
Any updates on this new tower? Has it helped AT and T customers throughout the lake get better service?
    • Jetsky
Thanks for the heads up. Cigar.

The price will blow your mind if they get some

Went in to Lucky 7 to get some crappie minnows today. All they had were crappie minnows and fatheads. She said to call in advance for the opener, couldn't say for sure if they'd have rainbows, shiners, etc for opener!
