Anyone been out there recently? It's been about a month for me, just wondering how the bass/pike bite is going

I was out there last night. Plenty of bass on outside edges with wacky worm or jig n pig black and blue was the favorite color. 12 between 12 ad 18" in about 2 hours. Don't forget the 4 pike that slammed the jig in the weeds.

Going fishing this weekend and just wanted cool to know what has been biting and does anyone catch crappies in this lake in the summer?

It is a hard lake to catch crappies in with any size. The lake gets a lot of fisherman now that the park is here. I caught a 10 pound pike today which is unusual for this lake. Alot of small fish.. try the weed lines you may catch some small crappies. Good luck.

I seen alot of crappies sitting on nests earlier this spring, but this time of year they're scattered all over the place. I've caught some accidentally while casting twister tails for bass in the 5 to 10 ft depths. You could try that, but you'll most likely be catching small bass all day long.

deffinately not as good as it needs to be. they see alot of pressure on big marine. so you end up with alot of small fish.

The bass bite is awesome!! All the 12"ers you want to catch and the pike will steal all your tackle, too!

Mixed opinions I see, that's funny. Anyways's I'll be heading out there this afternoon and I'll report who was right or wrong. Both are in agreement on small ones thou. That kind of puts a perspective on what I should expect. Wish me luck.

Well, I was out there last night and found a few at around 8:00pm. We were fishing deep weedlines with jigs and didn't score very well earlier in the evening. I'm heading back out again tonight to try again. I know no one wants to give out the hotspots but a little info on a location I should give a shot would be cool.

Thanks

Probably fishing the right stuff, try a little jig worm. Those 12" bass and the pike will be all over it.

Evening try flukes and senkos in shallow weeds, especially reeds. During the day carolina rig creatures or senkos, or a jig/craw on the weededge

we will see you out there we have a tournament out there tonight.

Which tournament were you in? looked like 2 clubs were out there lastnight. I stuck around for the bass weigh in. Not very big bags came in. Except those kids with the 15+ pound bag. They also fish in the tuesday night club I'm with. They always seem to do well.

we were with the greenhorn bass tour same as the guys that had the 15 pound bag it was a very tough night. i dont think anybody was expecting to see 15 pounds we have another tournament out there sunday and we also have one out there tuesday so i think we are going to have a rough week unless the weather cooperates. which tuesday club do you fish with?

If the greenhorns are out there fishing on tuesday, I hope those kids fish with you guys instead of with us grin

What a cluster f*&% out there tonight. I believe there were 3 different tournaments out there. Parking sucked, boat traffic sucked, everything sucked.

Is this all due to all the other lake's water levels being so low?? I don't remember it being like this last year. Tis lake must be a substitute lake for N/S center.

At least we came in 3rd and not last in our tournament. So that is the only positive of the day.

Good luck to the rest of you guy's that need to fish it. that lake is being pounded.

They don't work as good as you'd think they would. They are LED lights, which means, if you look at the lights they look bright. If you rely on the lights for lighting up whats behind you, it's not going to happen. They work better as a reflector than a light. I always found LED's are easy to see, but are hard to "see with".

I went out on Big Marine tonight, my first time on that lake when the water wasn't frozen. I arrived around 7:30pm, found a weedy flat, and proceeded to catch 15-20 fish (all bass & pike) on a spinnerbait.

There were a good number of other people out fishing, but it was hardly 'crowded'. None of the fish were very large (biggest bass was maybe 2 lb) but they were VERY aggressive and a lot of fun.

I found out this spring that an orange spinnerbait with gold blades may very well be the best lure to use on this lake.

I was out last night as well. Lots of small fish. Caught a pike for every bass. Man I hate those things. The lake was not crowded last night but I have been by the access all week and it is indeed getting pounded!

So many pike. There should be a 20 fish limit on those slimers. 20, shoot, might as well be 100. Probably only 3 guys that keep em anyway these days. Everyone knows bass make a better sandwich anyhow.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
