Like Tom said, 27in. But a very fat 27in, we figured around 8lb. It is Little Reds biggest walleye to date.

Nice fish and cool pictures. How is the lake now that it is warming up? Is it getting pretty sloppy and slushy on top of the ice? Do you think a wheeler would make it out right now? Thanks.

Was out on an area lake this weekend for s few hrs. Did some hopping around and found some thick eaters runnin bout 9.5" to 11". Also had something big break my line on a minnow n bobber but the action made up for it.. Beautiful weather. Found a spot that was from top to bottom: 2" ice, 3 or 4" water/slush, and about another 18" of ice. Was spooky walking and breaking through that top layer of ice.

All n all a great afternoon.

Thanks guys. They were nice. Mostly 10's. Must've ate 3 to myself yesternight. It wouldnt be wise to share where on a public forum since this one is one of those lakes that get somewhat overlooked and it took a lot of work to find em as they arent quite in their normal winter haunts anymore. I'll tell ya this. They weren,t deep basin fish.

I think it was 3 Rick....... He had a horseshoe in his pocket or somewhere else for a while....

I still can't help to laugh thinking about our responses to his cries for help at least a minute into the fight. After hearing his tone change is when I thought I'll leave the gills for a while. Even Bubs made in out of his shack. You and I met at the hole and knew he was serious, when that panfish stick was doubled over.

When you grabbed the line thinking he was snagged on the bottom of the hole , about the same time I suggested tightening the drag, dawned an expression on your face I will never forget.

"I ain't touching nothing on that reel!" "It's a big fish"

Riley fought that fish like a seasoned pro!...... staffer.......... LOL!

Yep, you spend the whole season trying everything you know, and its in march with your tiny panfish jigs that you finally get a big one.

Made it out to a couple Wright County area lakes yesterday. The cold overnight temps had all the water on the ice froze up, but I'm sure that will change again with the warm weather today. After two lakes and 60 holes I finally found some daytime gills and crappies. They were about 100yds away from there typical late ice locations still suspended over the basin. Found the best action in 28 FOW. The fish were suspended anywhere from 10'-22'. Most of the fish were caught on a gold #10 Chekai Tungsten jig tipped with eurolarvae. Had lots of bluegill in the 8"-9" with a couple tipping the tape a little over nine. Kept a few for a Friday fish fry and the rest went back down the hole.

I hit 2 lakes today,the first was a bust for me.I arrived at lake #2 and could not believe how rutted up the lake was near the access.I found willing biters in 15 feet of water.

This past weeks warm spell affect the ice at all?

it has not did much to the ice. It made some of the accesses sloppy

I agree, at least 3 ft of solid ice still on most lakes so no danger of breaking through. With that said though access and some spots on lakes getting rutted, some spots with crust that breaks through to slush/water. Melting and re freezing it making it sloppy and rough to drive in some spots.

Most folks are done fishing for the season. Every lake I drive by has maybe 1 or 2 guys on it. Perfect time to get out if you like peace and quiet.

I had the chance to go out this morning, so I took it. Since Saint Cloud got.hit with around 7 inches of snow I thought I'd head alite more south to what I was expecting to be a crappie lake, wrong! Well the gills and perch kept me busy and a first for me was the first hole I drilled was the best one. Started out in 14 feet and went high and low but couldn't beat 14 for activity. Used euro larva on a diamond jig at first then I put a power bait maggot on and they seemed to like that too. Around noon I switched to a perch colored frosty spoon with euro larva and had the best action. When I started ripping the frosty from 6 - 12 inch rips while slowly reeling up to 6 feet off the bottom that's what got the attention of the bigger fish. What a blast!
