does anybody ever fish pool number one? are there are boat access to it? any info provided would be appreciated

The only way to get a boat in is thru lock and dams 1 or 2. Or you can drag a canoe/kayak/john in at the U landing. Otherwise, shore fishing.

how does one go about going thru the lock and dams? if you drive up will they let u go thru or do u have to like call ahead or schedule it or something?

Posted

Boat up to the lock and there's a rope to pull. The operator will tell you how long of wait there is over a speaker.

I have not been down there for several weeks. Normally this time of year, the lock has ice in it, and is closed for the season. Is pool 1 open, free of ice? I have some good crappie spots there.

I was under the assumption that the locks close right along with the shipping season? Isn't it december - march?

I dunno but that makes sense.

i live in some apts on the river (well the steam plant is between me and the river) and its still iced up. ive been thinking of checking how much ice there is for some cats (last year there was over a foot at this time). its a lil spookey at first but bringing a chisle helps there. And i think your right on shut down times btw.

I bike over the stone arch to work every day, looks like the lock is still iced up, the main channel is open now but the shore still has ice. River is up to 38 degrees at the ford dam according to USGS, so it won't be long. Urbanflyguy I think I live a block up from you. I just moved in last summer but have been exploring the shore fishing options in the area. I don't have much info but if you want to compare notes... [email protected]

I jogged by Pool 1 today. It is pretty much clear from the lower St. Anthony Lock to the Franklin Ave. Bridge. The U of MN crew team were working their sculls and I saw a pair of gentlemen returning from a paddle at the east bank flats.

Speaking of maashkinoozhe (muskie)... what's the population like in pool one? Any good stories?

Posted

Muskies down here? They are more north from St. Cloud on up

there are muskies in pool 1 and 2... just aren't nearly as many as up in the northern sections

Hey Adam Wolf i take it you live in the floursac flats on 2nd?

i love this area there is some super fishing around here. If you ever want a fishing partner drop me a email at [email protected]

not sure if your into cats or not but i got a place here for some pigs if you got a rod and reel to match em.

and as far as muskies go ive seen one last summer from the stone arch eating carp in the 2-3 pound class she was coming like a lighting bolt out of the deep channel into the shallows to smash one then right back into the depths i saw her eat 2. very big muskie
