OK, I'll ask the Question.

A better age structure would be healthier, and I would suggest that managing for quantity only, over a balance of quality and quantity, is feeding someone's ego who needs to kill something in order to have hunted.

I take issue with the way the question was framed.

Manage for trophies? NO

Manage for proper age structure and herd ratio? YES (which will also produce vastly more mature bucks as a side effect).

How many people that said NO have ever shot a wallhanger? That would be a very interesting followup poll...

I think its the same concept. you say it one way, and others say it another but its the same thing. I think people realize that the only real way to manage for trophies is through managing for proper age structures, herd ratios, and overall health. Now, there are a few ways of doing that, but in the end the actions will produce the desired outcome for both concepts...which is why I think of them as the same thing....I have never shot a wallhanger, but I still use selective harvesting methods. Ive seen my share of wallhangers, many of which probably wouldnt be there if I didnt let bucks walk, and try to manage my local herd.

3 in one season - good for you! Good luck next season.

thanks, I would have no problem shooting does but those are the only three deer I got any kind of a shot. I saw 3 does during the bow season but they where too far away.

na, i just want does anyway, they should only allow each person to shoot one deer, no matter the sex of the deer. unless its carver park or some other over populated area then i guess kill em all

No for me, and No I don't have a wallhanger, but I have had three great oppurtunities at what I would have classified as wallhangers and quite frankly I just blew those chances. All though I have to say I put more work into those three chances and I feel I was rewarded just by being within 30 yards of those bucks. Of those chances I took one shot with a bow and hit some brush. And those encounters took place on public land that is well pressured. I just got the fever on each encounter. My point is if you put forth the effort you will get your chances at a bonafide buck the way the current system works.

Please, just a yes or no reply.

The Question: Should we change MN regs to make MN a better trophy deer state?

NO

your right that is another topic. I guess its hard not to ask questions. I just want to understand both views better. Lets keep it simple though...good call.

Kyle Check out the QDM thread in the outdoor discussions forum. This should give you a good idea as to why it's a yes/No question on this post.

yes, 46 yrs old

Change the gun season so its not during the peak rut and no party hunting. You still have plenty of deer and more trophies.

Agreed!!!! I would also support "slot-limits" in specified zones to see how it works.
