pretty slow this weekend, a few late at night

We also had a slow weekend, fished walleyes from 11-32 feet with a few lookers, no takers. Fished crappies and sunfish, and caught a few, but it was not the best. Thats fishing!

The panfish activity on the Gull Chain,the last couple days,has been very good. We punched a road out to some new areas. Yesterday produced quite a few nice gills,crappies,bass and a few northerns. The biggest sunfish went a hair shy of 11". That thing was a beast of a fish. Most of the fish came on 1/16th ounce forage minnows spoons. The pike have been going crazy for the Northland air plane jigs. Tipups with bigger sucker minnows have also been turning a few nice pike. Heres a pic of one of the pike from yesterday.

Pelican is starting to turn a little bit with the warmer weather, pulled in some nice slabs last night, going out later this afternoon and going to make the lake produce. Fishing 27 fow with some nice green weeds.

Yesterday it was gills and pike and tonight it was more slabs & bass. 4pm to 5:30pm was really hot tonight. 15 fow with forage minnows spoons tipped with Gulp maggots. Those bass are tons of fun. Heres a couple from tonights action.

Thanks, they really put up good fight on the ultra light gear. My buddy caught eight in forty minutes yesterday all over 15 inches while I was stuck in a meeting. Day off today, so its my turn.

Has anyone fished Bay Lake this month? I fish it during the summer but have never fished it during the winter. Interested to know if anyone knows the walleye spots. I'm familiar with the Ruttgers shoreline and both sides of Malkerson island, but that's about it. Thanks for your reply.

Had a great morning chasing bluegills. The weather has finally shaped up and let us fish outside the house. After popping a few holes I hopped around. Nothing in the first few holes and then bingo the Marcum lit up. I had two hot holes going and the gills were hungry. They were roaming 13-15 feet of water on the smaller lake I was on. They just couldn't resist a wiggler or two on a Custom Jigs Nuclear Ant. I also had pretty good success with a Lindy Genz Bug. The size of the fish was nice and they were a few smaller fish mixed in but the action was great for the two hours I put in. I think it is a sign that the late ice action is soon to begin. If the weather holds out I hope to get out a few more times in the near future. It should be a great weekend. The keys to success today was:

1. Fishing unpressured water

2. Small but active baits

3. Keep moving until you find them ( They were ready to bite)

Anyone having luck on Gull, sure has been slow for action. Fished leech,alex,sham,gull, and all have been slow. I'm wondering about going out of Ernie's this week, if anyone has a report. How are the roads, and can we get off road with pick-up.

caught a bunch of crappies on upper gull the other night, it was slow right away but picked up right at dark, caught 7 crappies over 12 inches

Coming up to Craguns this weekend. S&W stated Crappies are biting on Wilson's Bay-deep. Can anyone tell me the lake access points? Going to give it a try.

Any reports around the area on how the fishing has been? Gone to the big ponds, Leech, Winnie, Mille Lacs and had not much luck. Going to stay close to home until ice-out.

Going up to Whitefish Chain this weekend. No idea how the ice is. Last year at the same time of year, sat on the ice in 83 degree weather for one day and sladed the gills on upper Whitefish. Should I bring fishing gear or is ice not safe?

it's safe in most areas. if you are familier with the chain you'll be fine.

I called it in for the 08/09 ice season. The ice is around 16-18 with lots of water on top. Got a few crappies and sunnies but really not much to talk about. Let's hope open water will supply a few more meals of fish. If I had to live on what I caught this year ice fishing I would be real skinny or dead!

Yeah, I noticed that within the last two days, the ice has really taken a beating. The lake I have been fishing the last week (which went from a hot bite to a no bite lake this week) has had the ice begin to honeycomb. I'd guess we have lost about 6 inches of ice the last couple days as well.

The good news is that now we can start to pick up all the litter people have left on the ice, though I drew the line at picking up the bags of human excrement some thoughtful anglers left behind.

fished sat on upper gull and did very well on crappies in the evening. Sun went out to north long did well had to pick through the sunnies, but 8 out of the 10 crappies were dandies. got on the lake at 10 and was off at three.
