2020 Mille Lacs Lake Fishing Reports

I was near Hennepin Island in a wheel house from Friday to Sunday morning. We caught two 22" and a 23". Two perch that were very good tasting. Those were all Friday night, we just got a lot of sleep Saturday night! 30 fow, all fish on set lines with small shiners. We "heard" of a house that caught 15 Friday night. The house next to us pulled a 29" up also.

Fished a couple different flats out off of Myr Mars road Saturday. Drilled LOTS of holes and ended up catching 12-15 walleyes from 7:30a.m. - 6:00p.m. Had three keepers and the rest ranged from 18-23. We found most of our fish from 29-32 fow off of the edges. All in all not a bad day for the first time ice fishing the pond.

Went out of hunters took us right to the flats no problem. We were able to find the walleyes out in the deeper (30'-35') water on the edge of flats. All the walleye we were catching were 19''-25" only a couple keepers but ended the weekend with plenty of fish and fun.. Still haven't found perch or tuilles but well see going back up tomorrow.. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Good Fishin To All!!

Pretty sure he means Hunters point. Everyone up their calls it Hunters. Plus it's a much quicker access to the flats..

Heading out tomorrow morning for first time ever ice fishing mille lacs with a buddy for the day. Thinking of heading out of hunters point, not sure yet. Any suggestions on which road to use on the lake right now? we just want some picture takers, not looking to keep any. Also, seems like most are doing better in 28+fow now, should this be the depth to target?

Are you able to drive off road with a small sport utility?

Sorry that no one has been available to answer your question. Ice thickness runs from 17 to 21 inches.

The ice is fine. Time of day doesn't seem to mater. Its all dependent on the day. One day the majority of walleyes will move up the flat at 5-7pm. The next day the big movement will be from 9-11pm. The day after that it will be from 9-11am. The feeding windows of the fish have been really sporadic and unpredictable. Fish off the structure during the day and on the edges during lowlight and dark as a general rule...but sometimes the fish will on top at 11am. With all the fronts and variable weather lately, patterns are hard to establish with any certainty.

Man, that was some wind this weekend...sure is nice to hunker down in the house and have a good excuse to not go outside and drill a bunch of holes. smile

I fished with my dad on Friday through Sunday, and we ended up catching about 15 fish, give or take. He fished shallow in about 10 feet; I stayed out deep on the mud/rock transition. Most of the fish came overnight, at least out deep.

Question: I'll be up there for the first time this year and going out from Appledorn will I be needing the auger extensions for this coming weekend with this cold frezing let me know thanks.

No, not unless we all of a sudden get a big snow pack on the ice. I would estimate 24-30" max by the weekend.

Some houses that are a little higher off the ice are needing extensions to drill already. Many others are close to needing them.

If you got one, bring it with just in case. An extension doesn't take up much room.

We ended up with 6 walleyes and a perch sunday-monday. It was freezing. Thermometer said -29 with a 18-25 mph NW wind when I went to start the truck at 4:00 a.m. All fish came on crappie minnows. Smallest was 18 1/4" and biggest was 23 1/2"

Bad bite for me tonight...only got one fish and had one pull the bobber down but decide shortly thereafter that a shiner wasn't exactly what he was in the mood for. Once again, the fish under my shack weren't looking for the jigging spoons.

Shamefully, a friend of mine fishing, oh, 20 yards away, caught eight. Grumble, grumble, grumble.... grin
