AND go look at the Broncos wins last year, I would said 2 of them are solid wins. San Diego and even that was the Hochuli fiasco! Then they beat the Bucs pre-implosion. WOW 6 other wins vs. 1 against K.C, 1 against Oakland, and one against the woeful Browns!!! Awesome!!

So maybe Josh has a little better insight into judging a QB's skills then lets say you.

Just to let you know Cutler is a soild QB Broncos just had high schoolers playing on defense they were terrible. If they had at least top 15 defense they could have went deep into the playoffs.

I have a hard time taking anything you say about a Qb's ability seriously after your love fest with T-Jack last season. Your insight into judging a QB's skills is seriously in question.

Who do you honestly think gives us a better chance at winning T-Jack or Cutler? If you say T-Jack then you are delusional.

Cutler is a much better QB. I bet if you go back at least 1/2 of the losses that Denver got were because the defense couldn't stop ANYBODY. His stats show he did deserve to be in the Pro-Bowl. Also Denver's running game was a terrible last year. Cutler would be a great addition to the Vikes, and hopefully they can get a trade done.

No comment...jk..sure Cutler can duck and chuck with the best of them but guess what that does not always win you games. 18 turnover and 2 fumbles lost sure do lose a lot of game though... All I am saying is that Cutler is not our answer at QB. Josh figured out something about Cutler and does not want to role with him. So why should we?

And for all stat lovers go look at Cutlers stats game by game last year..Wow, he sure struggled against the few good teams they played and trounced on the losers of the league!! What a winner!?..The Broncos had to have by far the easiest schedule in all the land and they still stunk it up!

Just becuase one coach doesn't like a guy doesn't mean anything. Remember a guy named Cris Carter, one coach just didn't like him becuase all he did was catch touch downs. He turned out to be a pretty nice player for us for many years.

I'm not sure how you can say this coach's opinion means so much. Lets maybe wait to see what this coach can do first before annointing him as great QB mind.

Ahh the Broncos played some pretty good teams last year. You don't go to the pro bowl by being a bad QB. Look at the [PoorWordUsage] defense and running game they have. he's leaps and bounds ahead of our qb's. I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Bronco's rush offense was 12...not that bad. His wr's were leaps and bounds better then ours the last 2 years that is for sure. So where ae these pretty good teams? Oh you mean New England whom trounced the B'cos 41-7 Or the game to get into the playoffs against the Chargers where they lost 52-21.

Sorry, but Cutler is a much better QB than Sage and T-Jack. Actually T-Jack might be beat out by most of the starting College QB's. At least they take a chance throwing it farther than 5 yards.

I'm starting to think you're on someting yourself Fishin58. To say you'd rather roll with T-Jack over Cutler you have to be on something wacky.

I think you and T-Jack are the only 2 people alive that would pick him over Cutler, oh and maybe T-Jacks mom would agree with you as well.

You have me scratching my head, I just can't follow your logic.

When your defense gives up 41 and 52 points you are going to lose most of those games. Do you think T-Jack is going to put up 52 on anyone?

yeah I'd say San Diego is decent so was Atlanta, Tampa, New Orleans, New York. These were decent teams last year. Why are you such a Cutler Hater. Are you that opposed to him coming to Mn. Since you are the stat master what did their Defense rank.

They got throttled by KC, and they should have lost that one game against San Diego which involved the worst call in the NFL since the Jerome Bettis coin flip flub.

I still would rather have Cutler than any of our current options

So the mighty Pro-bowl is how you judge a QB then why in the world would Rivers not be in? 105 QB rating and 34 Tds???? Instead of Burnt and Cutler the turnover machines.

I think so leech!! jk I just know he is not the answer, cutler is a primadonna. He is the but of the Rivers vs Cutler debate. Now, after this trade debate, he is just a baby!

Cutler is 25 years old and threw for 4,526 yards and 25 TDs

When you think about the QB situation in the entire NFL and factor in Cutler's inexperience, the team around him and add his skill level. Hes one of the top Quarterbacks in the NFL.

The vikings would be a MUCH better team with Cutler, no question.

grin Nailed it!! He is in another league when you put him up against the man-boy-crush known as T-Jack. He may not be the best in the NFL but he is steller compaired to what we have now.

I think if you look at all of the stats, Cutler was the #3 passer in the league. I think the main reason that his new coach wanted to trade for Cassel is due to a comfort zone he had coaching him. Getting rid of Cutler would have been the worst thing Denver could have done.

I would love to see Cutler Here. but...

Broncos Will Not Trade Cutler

by Adam Schefter

Denver Broncos HC Josh McDaniels reiterated that the team will not trade QB Jay Cutler. "Let me be as clear as I can about this," McDaniels said when reached at his office Tuesday afternoon. "We are not trading Jay Cutler - period."

He would have if Cassell was in the mix. He is trying everything he can to repair his relationship with Cutler. Cutler still won't even speak to any of them, and I wouldn't either.

What else does anyone expect him to say now that the deal for Cassell fell through. McDaniels will have to pucker up for Cutler now. Cutler could easily force a trade if he wants to make a big stink about it.

Cutler doesn't want to meet with them now. I don't blame him. He's probably going to wait awhile until he cools off and see what they have to say. I doubt this is over.

If I was Cutler I would be pretty ticked off. First off he found out about this either through the newspaper or espn(I forget which). To find out you were close to being put out for another qb, might make any of us mad. I think all the rear kissing McDaniels does will not matter. Cutler will put up a stink and wiggle his way out of Denver. THOUGH, I do not believe we have what it will take to get him. Im thinking high 1st round and possibly another qb or rb. Im pretty sure Denver is smart enough to stay away from T-Awesome. Taylor could be thrown around, but in the end I really believe Detroit has what it takes to get him(if they do go after a qb). Trade away their top pick along with whoever. Denver could get a qb with a high pick, and Cutler would be throwing to the man beast(Johnson). How about this....T Jack and Taylor(plus a 2nd or 3rd rounder) for McNabb?

Got a sick feeling in my stomach over this one. Detroit needs a QB, and has the #1 overall. Plus I had Kevin Smith on my fantasy team last season, and he is actually pretty good. They might figure they can deal the pick and Smith and get by for one year then get a replacement RB in next years draft. They got Rudi and Tatum Bell yet, right?

no one is getting cutler without owning cassel...i'm sure if the deal would of went down the broncos would of got cassel and picks....not like denver is just gonna trade a pro bowl caliber qb for a 1st round pick that could be a bust and go into the season with no qb...that would be retarded.

some people obviously don't understand when your a qb on a team with a [PoorWordUsage] defense you have to throw the ball alot and force things to try and score points...which creates turnovers.

when your a sissy qb on a team with a mean running game and a stellar D but don't dare throw the ball for more then 5 yards cause your in fear of making a turnover your a sally.

t-awesome must be better since he doesn't turn it over as much with his 5 yard dump passes....while another guy is out there gun slinging and throwing it deep and taking chances to try and win......muahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaaaa

someone needs to tell warner to shut his trap and quit trying to work out deals to get boldin to stay....boldin is a stud....we need to get that guy.

free agency is always more fun with zigy around...you really never know what will happen because he'll take chances and go get some players so we can win....i'll always be greatful we got jared...i always said just please go get jared and they did so i can never be mad for long if we miss out on a guy.

the vikings moves have been painfully slow this year besides the couple days of tj news...we already knew the sage deal was gonna happen and we resigned klieny thats about it....whats goin on here? i don't hear anything about us in the works for any players...no oline, no dt's, no corners, nadda.

After 15+ yrs going to pike bay lodge every June I have noticed many more bass anglers in the resort.  Also notice many 15-18” smallmouth in the cleaning shack.  I would estimate on a daily average 4 of 5 buckets of entrails are of smallmouths vs walleye or pike.  Not sure how it is at other resorts but if folks are taking the larger fish for fish fry it could explain the smaller average size of smallies being caught.  Just my 2 cents.  Largest smallie brought in my boat this year was 19” but fewer 17-18” fish than past years.
    • SkunkedAgain
Sounds like it's time to start keeping the smaller smallies for lunch.

With two muskies under my belt, my best advice is to fish for pike and bass and then let a giant muskie come chomp down on said pike/bass as you reel it in. 🙂   Unfortunately I have no other good advice.

The guys in that tourney aren't permitted to use live bait though.  That makes a substantial difference.  Clear water and pressure with nothing but artificial lures makes for a difficult bite.   I don't have a theory as to why the average size of smallmouth on Vermilion is declining.  The common explanation would be too many smaller fish are gobbling up resources and there isn't enough for bigger ones, but that doesn't seem like a plausible answer in a big lake like Vermilion.  Certainly people aren't keeping plus sized smallmouth either.  That far north, it takes a bass about 10 years to reach 5 pounds/20 inches in size.

St Cloud has a good access at Wilson park,  Sartell has a nice access off NE River Rd,  another access above Blanchard dam on East side off Hilton Rd  and at Lindbergh state park...Little Falls  has a access right above the dam.   Water is pretty high and dirty.  Crayfish colors have been good again this week.  Smallies have been using anything available that breaks the current so finding them most days has been pretty easy

Interesting...   You're doing better than most.  The biggest bass weighed-in during the recent MN Bass Federation tourney was only 4.33lbs.   The winning bag was less then 20lbs.  To have several over 5lbs during your trip is pretty special.   Congrats!
    • Jetsky
Question.  I have guests coming who may want to fish for muskies.  I've cast for them in August along shorelines and at rock piles.   Do I fish for them that way in June?   Should I troll shorelines or drop offs for them?  Thanks.
    • partyonpine
Yeah was up for a week.   As other alluded to the weather was brutal.  Did catch some larger walleyes on slip bobbers on windy points in under 5 feet of water.  As for minnows they were at Lucky seven in Virginia and Grubens has some nice minnows as well.  Smallmouth fishing was terrific given the circumstances.
    • partyonpine
Brian   That is funny and shows how things are anecdotal.  Just got back from a week we caught as many fish as we wanted, however our average size was 16.5-17 inches.  While no 6 pounders we did score several 5 pounders.  We did not catch any or very few fish under 14  inches all week.  I was just commenting that the average size has increased substantially.  We were throwing larger artificial and live bait but again did not really catch any small smallmouth.  Fished smallies for 5-6 hours each day and walleyes at night.  Overall was slow but the weather was horrendous.  Did go home with enough walleye to satisfy me.
    • Brianf.
I haven't been up to fish smallmouth  in a couple weeks.  My partner and I caught about 300 over the  course of those two days.  That sounds great - and it is if you like numbers. However, few of those fish were over 3 pounds and even fewer were over 4 pounds.  Most of our catch comprised fish between one and a half to 2 1/2 pounds.   I've been fishing the lake for 20+ years and feel that the size structure of the smallmouth in the lake has changed quite a bit during that time.  When I first started targeting smallmouth 20 years ago, half our bag seemed to be comprised of four pounders - and five pounders were in the mix with an occasional six pounder here and there. I haven't caught a 5 pound smallmouth bass in five years on Lake Vermilion!   They are a daily occurrence on places like Mille Lacs and in Door Co.   What has changed on Lake Vermilion?     I have some theories about why the size structure has changed, though curious what others are seeing.  Anyone have thoughts about the state of the smallmouth fishery on Lake V?
