I will bring an extra house and an extra spear or 2.

As long as you are legal you can use my stuff.

Unless YoPauly speaks for it first.

I'd love to sit and do some too, I'm cool with watching an expert so others could have a crack in a house of their own. My buddy has a portable, Clam I think, he thinks that it would get dark enough to do it by, but needs a spear, he is looking into things

i would also be content with just sitting and watching...or maybe doing some tipup/rod fishing

Just come out we will hook you up.

I counted my spears last night and I somehow ended up with 4 of them. I really thought I needed the extras before buying the last 2 but now I am not sure. lol

The bottom line is we have enough gear between all of us to make it happen. We can drive out on the lake this time so transporting it all should not be a problem.

I think I am going to get a full spearing package together - House, spear, Fish saw, rattle wheels, and a couple of decoys and throw it on one of those on line auction sites. I might have to pair down just a little bit this year. lol

Just to let you guys know. I know its a month away but the ice is very uneven now in front of the landing 14" around the point on the SE side about 6"-8". I dont know if it has springs or what but be careful driving out there. I did have a guy drive by me on the SE side tonight and go all the way to a house on the far end of the lake. To say the least i thought he was going down the way it was cracking! I should have a extra house out there also if someone needs it. As for fish its been very slow only seen 1 today in 4 hours and they come up to the decoy and back down just as fast. They are showing no interest in them now hope it picks up by feb.

any muskies, I have never speared a lake with muskies and not sure if I could tell the difference

also I was looking at the map on lakefinder. looks like only one public access, then take a left and drive the lenght of the lake to the edge of the weeds?

I dont think theirs any muskies. Theres weed beds at both end of the lake. And it drops off fast. I have a 4x8 house and the back of the house is in 5' with weeds and my spear holes in 15'. Ive seen a few sunfish and about 10 trout. Just not much for pike.

the thing you have to remember about this lake is that the weed lines come out sooooooooo far, and if you want to get out on the weed line, your going to be in 12-15 fow.

all depends on where you are on the lake. The best is to put a camera down the hole to see what the weeds are doing. I try to get out on the edge, or if the weeds go out to far, then i try to find a pocket so i am not on top of the weeds.

I will put my name in as being there! I got all pumped for the last one you guys had and then had to cancel because of snow plowing. So if the weather cooperates this time i'll be there for sure.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
