You are correct sir No spearing on Forest lake in Hennipen Co.

1) No spear in the photo - Prove he was spearing!

2) Is there a law against having a decoy in the water without a spear in the house? - Prove he was spearing.

3) There's more than one Forest Lake in MN - Prove he was spearing

4) Prove the lake is in MN

A lot of assumptions can be waged based on a photograph.

I totally agree Lep nothing wrong with that photo and I just stated that its illegal to spear on Forest lake in Hennipen County is all.

Matter of fact I cut a spear hole size hole on MilleLacs to site fish at times and have even jigged a few decoys nothing wrong with that.

Just to reinforce what has already been said: We cannot spear Forest Lake in Hennepin County. It is a small "lake" that is really not much more than a bay of Lake Minnetonka. Forest Lake in Washington County is open to spearing.

Boy that must've been some slippery walking! Bet the water clarity was just about like it is all summer, with no ice! laugh

That first pic is probably one of the coolest ice-fishing pictures I've EVER seen! And the pic of your little boy holding that fat pike is nice as well. smile

Well I have been spearing since the 29th of November (only 3 times) without seeing a fish. I mainly blame marginal ice since I couldn't get out to where I wanted to go, but today I got lucky. This is the first and only fish I've seen. It came in on a Dewey's Golden Shiner nice and slow and even stopped for me! Same exact length as my big one last year, 41.5 with a 18" girth. I don't have a scale to weigh it but I figure around 16lbs. full-39199-27485-20121210_122657.jpg

FINALLY able to post a picture of my brand new spear shanty with a successful morning. Lost track but saw more then 12 pike and had a double pike action while on the phone doing a job interview, talk about multitasking...ha. Anyways enjoy the picture and hope to contribute more soon.

Spearhead you're maxed out on PM's. The lake is within Cass/Crow County area, fear of to much pressure and attention I prefer to keep it on the down-low, or PM me and let me know where you live and see if it's worth your drive.... wink

Thx,

MR

And eat!  Turkey, noodle, wild rice!   Darn good for first run ever! 😋

I have not eaten one, they are protected generally here in the states and Canada although there have been special seasons for population control but I don't think it was harvested for meat. I've hunted in countries where they are not protected and was with someone who shot one, I didn't eat it but it just stunk after I picked it up.

Do you guys eat cormorant?  Even Indians call them fisheaters, and they don't eat fisheaters! 🤮

Happy Thanksgiving to you all as well. We had ours yesterday because our RN daughter in law had to work today.  So I'm trying my hand first time ever at turkey stock for soup later! 😋

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.   The ice is coming.  Eager to get out. Dug out my old strikemaster Thursday and got it ready. Smokes like  a chimney at times, but can't justify buying a new one when the old still works good.

They definitely are stinky birds, the cormorant that is. The Sandhills don't really smell. When you clean them it smells more like venison than waterfowl. We figured he wouldn't pick it up since they must smell similar to chickens and my buddy has trained the Chesapeake to not go after their chickens at home

Many years ago it was legal to shoot cormorants.  My Grandfather at the time also had a chesapeake bay retriever and he said that dog would retrieve anything in the worst conditions.   One time he told me he shot a cormorant.  The dog swam out out there and refused to pick it up.  Apparently because they are so nasty, stinky, and greasy.   He said its the only bird that dog would not retrieve in 11 years.
