Finally stuck a pike this winter. It wasn't the best shot placement in the world but she happened to dart away after I threw the spear. 32 inches 9 pounds and it was on one of my homemade decoys as well.

Great fish and look how little it's head looks with the fat belly,it's great when you can fake them out with a decoy you made yourself. I saw the fattest pike in a long time today a 33.5 that weighed 11 ponds that thing was a tank.

The guys that saw this fish couldnt belive how much of a tank Joey's fish was.

sorry for the blood but the spear really did a number to the fish archerysniper helped clean it off for pics and that the best we could get it.

The fish were really moving today, stuck my personal best while spearing 35" 11.2 pounds. Saw 7 northerns today saw 2 after I got my 35" that were easily over 30" and one of those might have gone 40" or more. Saw around 10 walleyes and I'm guessing they were all between 15 and 20" had one nail my salmo zipper and it broke my line and I had to watch it try and shake the bait free, that was a little disappointing. Saw northerns walleyes bass bluegills perch crappie carp and suckers today, pretty cool day in the spear house for sure.

The lake has no size limit and the DNR wants little pike removed so I'm glad to help. Now I just hope our ice holds out till the end of season on March 15th.

Nice fish Gordie i like the yellow toward the tail, i thought Archerysniper said it was 38" when you texted him, did it stretch an extra inch laugh

I pulled a tape quick on it and had a mess to deal with in the house and I looked quickly and I told him 38.5.

After the the day was over we pulled a tape again and it wasa 39 and no tail pinch. so yup it grew a 1/2 inch

I know this isnt a great pic but Its the only one I have other than at the house pics.

Great way to finish the year of spearing.

And eat!  Turkey, noodle, wild rice!   Darn good for first run ever! 😋

I have not eaten one, they are protected generally here in the states and Canada although there have been special seasons for population control but I don't think it was harvested for meat. I've hunted in countries where they are not protected and was with someone who shot one, I didn't eat it but it just stunk after I picked it up.

Do you guys eat cormorant?  Even Indians call them fisheaters, and they don't eat fisheaters! 🤮

Happy Thanksgiving to you all as well. We had ours yesterday because our RN daughter in law had to work today.  So I'm trying my hand first time ever at turkey stock for soup later! 😋

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.   The ice is coming.  Eager to get out. Dug out my old strikemaster Thursday and got it ready. Smokes like  a chimney at times, but can't justify buying a new one when the old still works good.

They definitely are stinky birds, the cormorant that is. The Sandhills don't really smell. When you clean them it smells more like venison than waterfowl. We figured he wouldn't pick it up since they must smell similar to chickens and my buddy has trained the Chesapeake to not go after their chickens at home

Many years ago it was legal to shoot cormorants.  My Grandfather at the time also had a chesapeake bay retriever and he said that dog would retrieve anything in the worst conditions.   One time he told me he shot a cormorant.  The dog swam out out there and refused to pick it up.  Apparently because they are so nasty, stinky, and greasy.   He said its the only bird that dog would not retrieve in 11 years.
