I'm posting this from another website. Very sad news. Be careful out there everyone.

A muskie fisherman from Maple Grove, MN is missing on Lake Mille Lacs. His boat was found up near Red Door in the Knox point area. His name will not be released until his family or police do. He used the Casino landing and was last seen there on Wednesday around 5pm. He was fishing out of a 518 Ranger, his wallet was found in the boat with his bow mount down. That is all the info that has been released at this time. If anyone has any information or remembers seeing a 518 Ranger up in the Knox Point area, please contact either the Mille Lacs County Sheriff, Aitkin County Sheriff, or Crow Wing County Sheriff's office's accordingly.

Thanks for posting MuskieSlayer. Additional info. is that the boat had a 150 Evinrude motor with a trolling plate mounted on it. Yes, they believe he was fishing solo. They have been focusing on the areas from Indian Point all the way to Red Door.

Excellent point. From 55 degrees on down, I always have mine on. Too easy to trip and fall out and watch the wind take the boat away from you.

Whenever it is cold enough to where a parka or similar jacket wering a PFD is a smart choice. I did not wear mine for years but three years ago bought an inflatable (due to my wife pesyering me about wearing a PFD in cold water). Now, unless I'm fishing in a tee shirt, I have the inflatable on. I don't even notice it. My thoughts go out to the family of the person that is missing.

With the current inflatable technology and pricing (auto versions for under $100) there is no reason to not to wear one, yet I'm not wearing one in my avatar pic. Back to the original story.

I was a little surprised to see that they were focusing on the south end of the lake. Maybe they got some good info? I hope they find him soon.

The article said they where working off of the mans GPS unit. More than likely that's where it showed his trail.

He was 59 years old and a great fisherman... He is married with 2 kids... They were following his GPS trails and were looking for him by the trails. They said if they did not find him thursday it would probaly be 2 weeks befor he surfaces. He is a great pearson. God Bless.

That is terrible to hear. Anytime you have waders, boots, and heavy clothing on it is risky to go without life vests. I should listen to my own warning and probably invest in that arctic armor stuff.

i've read this several times. i did'nt comment because i was searching for something to say. only thing i can say is my heart goes to his loved ones, and i hope together they have the strength to carry on.

I think another thing to remember about this is that even with a life vest a person won't last all that long in water that is less than 50 degrees. I'll never forget that horrible story a couple of years ago about the father and son that died of hypothermia on Big Sandy in early October with a water temp of 55 degrees. Their canoe tipped and they had life vests; cold water does very bad things to the human body.

The family met with the sherif and they are concentrating thier effort out on the mud flats. They said the snaged on something twice and are going out again tomorrow in that same are.

Just a note on inflatables, my experience was that when it rained, they activated, and the one I purchased refused to hold air. That is fine if you are conscious, but if you succumb to cold or a bump in the bean, you may find yourself in a bit of a pickle. MAke sure you know that the unit you purchase will hold air, and not activate in inclement weather. I stick to standard vests as a result. Also, if you wear the inflatable under clothing, they can constrict your breathing very quickly. FYI and God Bless this family.

Well the lastest news is nothing.... They thought they found him yesterday, they found something 5'7" on the side imagine out by 7 mile but came up empty. I sure hope they find him soon for the family.

Inflatables activate from water pressure, not rain. They have to be submerged in order for things to work. Maybe the old ones where different.

Yes, do not wear one under clothing, that would be silly.

Well, they thought what they found out on the mud flats was him but it was a old boat....They are saying now that if the water gets any colder that he might sink to the bottom. Lets pray that they find him soon.
