Myself and a few buddys were going to float down stream for a few days after opener and camp on the islands and fish the river from here to monticello. Has anybody ever done this, and is it good fishing when you get way down stream where not alot of people have been.

Ya, it is a blast. Just make sure you camp below the high water mark. Most Islands are posted by DNR and other people to stay off. During low water, the sand bars out from these islands can be used.

SH might chime in on more do's and dont's about this.

Are there alot of deep holes and things that you can pull some nice fish out of or what is the best way to fish these areas.

There are lots of good spots in by the islands. Fish jigs in the slower deeper pools. Pleanty of bass and decent walleye pop. if you look hard for them.

Shack- How would one know if the island is posted? I havent seen any signs. Is there somewhere online I could look them up?

How long do you think that it would take to float down as far as monticello. We are thinking about doing a 3 day 2 night trip. Do you think that would be good. I mean we will be stoping and fishing alot, we wont be going staight down the river.

Eskimonman,

If ain't posted, then it is not posted. If an Island is posted you will see the signs.

If you want, this would be a good question to bring up again in the Miss. North River forum.

Smallie Hogg'in and others will have more info for ya.
