Mothballs in Winnebago Creek

Recommended Posts

We got down Saturday for a lil time on the water and found some mothballs thrown into the stream, there was a pretty good amount off the Quarry road bridge and a dead frog(not sure if it was winter kill or poisoned) I'm not sure what the motivation for doing this other than possibly poaching or just poisoning the stream.

If anyone sees this happen again call the CO, this type of activity is reprehensible.

Yes I did, Scott Fitzpatrick in Houston Co. (507) 895-4263, he is investigating it and I'm sure would like to hear if anyone else sees anything suspicious, what got us looking around was a few spilled on the side of the road on the bridge, so keep an eye out guys if your on trout streams.

Thanks

John

something to do with the signs that say:

"FAMILY FISHING NOT FLY FISHING" &

"NO FLIES and NIGHTCRAWLERS ONLY"

?don't know?

that's strange

This was tipped over less than 25 yards from were we found them but the CO said most of those issues have cleared up and didnt think it was related.

Most likely has nothing whatsoever to do with those signs.

That is more unfortunate than strange...but strange nonetheless.

It is very unfortunate but seemingly has all to much to do with those signs IMO.

It might. You could be right, Dean. I'm not sure who that points guilt at, but it doesn't really matter, IMO.

Whoever dumps toxic material in a trout stream (any stream for that matter) most likely doesn't fish, know anyone who does, or even care one bit about the outdoors. If it was an angler(s), it's safe to say they're 2 sandwiches short of a picnic, regardless of how they fish.

When I fish there I park and string up right next to one of those signs, and have had pleasant conversations with nearby landowners. There's never been an issue. It's important that everyone still understands that an easement is an easement, and we're all required to treat every landowner with respect by leaving no trace behind.

I agree 100% Randy, it's a dang shame, more I think about it, the more it seems that the 2 are unrelated

yeah it is pretty dumb debate down there over the live bait and C&R and what ever else. I hope it has nothing to do w/ that. Hopefully it was all bad luck that they ended up in there!

Yea I'm sick of the fly only stuff. I don't use live bait but whats the big deal if people do. I out fish my live bait fishing freinds 10 to one evertime. There's a ton of stream out there plenty of room for all of us. Also anyone else notice dead deer. We saw two dead while fishing pine creek.

Hey Tipup, I've seen some dead deer out there too. A few dead cows too, actually. Probably this past winter. The animals were getting used to global warming before winter came back.

Good thing there aren't any "fly only" regulations around, eh? Especially there in Houston county where those signs are posted and there aren't any special regulations of any sort! \:\)
