Tackle stores in MN?

mainbutter

Question

I hope this is the right forum to ask this question.. sorry if it's not!

Looks like I'm going to be moving to MN from TX and be here year round(I've been going to school at Carleton College in Northfield, and will be graduating in 7 weeks!), and just realized there isn't a single bass pro shop in this state. I've always done my tackle shopping at the same bass pro most of my life, they've treated me well and it was a store I knew, but now I am going to have to find somewhere new.

Anyone know what the closest tackle shop to Northfield is? I don't have my own car and I hate asking a friend to drive two hours away just so I can do some shopping. I don't know what the better retailers you have here in MN, and would love some guidance for what places to check out. The only outdoors store I remember seeing anywhere nearby is a Gander Mountain a little ways north on 35, but I've never been in one and have no idea if they carry fishing tackle.

Thanks for any help!

Reel Fishing and Tackle is hands down the best southern Minnesota shop for tackle, bait, tips, tricks, gear, coffee, etc. Click on the site and see what they have to offer. Madison Lake is not walking distance and without a set of wheels it will be tough to get to. They arn't a long drive, but they are a drive from Northfield.

There is a Cabellas in Owatonna.

Other than that, I honestly don't know what is over there. I'm sure someone will post more info.

The bait store in Dundas is by Firehouse liqour south of town. They have everything you need to fish the Mighty Cannon. K Mart also has some tackle. The ugly truth is that there is a derth of fishing stuff for miles and the big box stores aren't helping any.

I'd be willing to exchange computer/tutoring work for takle rides to the cities. Heck any excuse to get out of town forget the computer stuff, just kick in gas and we can head out anytime. I need to return some stuff at Cabelas and would take a rider later this week. [email protected] class of '88

Boiler guy, love the new avitar, a huge step up from those crappies. I second your opinion on Reel fishing and Tackle too.

Mainbutter, welcome to the site it's the best one on the web. I lurk on many others, but this is the one to come back to.

We have great salmon fishing in the great lakes and I will be fishing on Superior over Memorial day with a boat load of Carls. From you first post I gather you have some experience in Alaska. I would like to exchange info on Alaska and the Great lakes and compare notes. Hans

I don't know. Big fish are totally awesome. However, big little fish with your kids are more awesome. It was time to mix things up a bit tho.

Sorry for changing the topic.

Mills Fleet Farm. There is one in Owatana I think and also one accross the Interstate from the Gander Mountain you were talking about. Mills has a big selection of fishing\hunting stuff, also if you need a piece of plumbing for your home, and also some antifreeze for your truck, maybee a new weed wacker, you can pick it all up at Fleet Farm. Put it this way, if Fleet Farm doesnt have it, you dont need it.
