I need a little help here. I am going to be up on the lake the first weekend of May (if the ice is out yet) to get ready for the walleyes and would like to get some tips on where to catch some crappies. My cabin is between Shamrock Marina and Moccasin Point. This will be the first time i am going to try to catch some crappie and have no idea where they would be. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If the ice is out try the Niles Bay, Wolf Bay, Fox Bay area.

Black Bay on the far West end of the lake is one of the better areas. Most shallow bays inbetween the two areas also have crappies and sunfish.

Look for old reeds and fish in them or close to them. Sunny days are best.

Good Fishing!

If you want to stay closer to the cabin, try Bystrom, Grassy and St Marys bays. All have the necessary ingredients, muck bottom and south facing. Those that Cliff recommends are the places where everyone goes and you will catch fish but sometimes its more fun to not have competition. Also the north side of greenwood Bay by the pine tree laying in the water also can produce.

Gonna' be on the east end of the big V May 17-24th (if the water is not to hard !)

Usually don't have too much trouble finding the 'eyes' but would like to have a meal of crappies..... Assuming that the ice has been out for a week or so what is the likely pattern for crappies??

We will be in Daisy Bay...

IA Troller,

Welcome to FM/HSO !

Most of the crappies will be shallow if the water has warmed a little.

Look for them on the North shorelines in old reeds, wood or rock piles.
