I believe they were going to set the net last night. Water temp was right around 40 degrees on friday.

yep, right at the rapids at Dunton Locks. Just remember to park BEHIND the DNR buildings at the county park parking lot.

Thanks deacon.

The work shift starts at 800; they are usually stripping by 830/900.

pretty much in a nutshell they catch the females before they head up river, stream what not, and a gentle squieezing motion down the belly of the female and the eggs just come flying out, i seen it once on television about... gosh prolly 4 years ago. really neat process, but also quite messy, but its deffinatly helping mn waters.

AHHHH THANKS, I guess I have seen that done as well. Anything that helps the MN waters and fishing is a good thing !!!

It's possible, but the nets and posts are in the way of the channel. It would be pretty tough to fish the area without snagging on something.

It's not legally closed for fishing, but I doubt the fisheries staff would appreciate anglers hanging out around the trap right now. If you're looking for panfish, they're not in the trap yet.

they are right at Dunton Locks, adjacent to the DNR Area Office and Dunton Locks County Park. Take Co. Hwy 6 West at US Hwy 59, and turn south on Co. Hwy 19 until the end of the road. There are signs posted on the highway to the DNR Office.

Be there between 830-900 am; that is when they typically strip fish. There should be an open house this Saturday, including tours.

I would recommend seeing this process at least once. It is very interesting to see. Do they still use the Eagle feather to do the mixing, Deadhead?

Could a guy go out there Friday morning and see it? My wife and kids are leaving for the weekend.

You can see it any day of the week until they reach their quota. Might want to double check before going tomorrow though. A few big sheet of ice blew in this afternoon and started taking out part of the trap. If we get some more NW wind tonight, might not be much left tomorrow morning...

Deadhead

Do you know if the stripping operation is done for the year or not? If so when did it end?

Still going. slow this morning; cooler temps didn't bring in as many fish last night.
