I was just wondering where some good muskie fishing can be in the Bemidji area. I will be working in the area this summer. I'm a beginner in search of advice and some tactics. Thanks!

basically anywhere on the lake with rock piles, bars, cabbage drop offs, sand. You shouldnt have a problem finding fish, otherwise a map/gps will work well.

sorry...that was for lake bemidji

The Bemidji area is hard to beat for musky fishing. I would start with the areas that were previously mentioned. Depending on the time of year, fish can be found on all of these spots. Pay attention to the moon phases and rise and set times as often these windows are the best. Another thing that might be a good idea if your just starting out is to hire a guide for a day. There are some good guides up here and they will help you learn the lake alot faster and accelerate your knowledge of muskie fishing overall. Most of the lakes up in this area that hold muskies are great fisheries and once you can pattern the fish you should do very well. There are some very large fish in these lakes and if you put enough time in you will get some that make your knees shake for a long time.haha One thing I've noticed that most beginners don't take serious enough is the figure 8. Make sure you do a good wide and deep figure 8 on every cast, usually the wider the better as it gives the big fish more room to turn. Not only is the figure 8 effective but it also can provide you with some of the coolest strikes. Not much gets your heart going like watching a big one eat at your feet. I would say about half of my fish came on the figure 8 last year. Overall, you just need to be patient and put your time in on the water and you will catch fish. Good luck!

Bemidji, Plantangenet, Big, Cass Chain are all really good muskie lakes.

I like the other guys suggestions but I would go one further. Since your going to be in the area for awhile I would get a guide for a full day. First half on say bemidji and the second half of the day on Plant. or Cass. This way you'll get right to the good spots and learn allot from a pro. Just my .02. NOt sure if he is a guide but look up Jeff Anderson or if Chris Haley is muskie guide contact him. They should help you out.

good luck and enjoy some of the best muskie fishing in the country!

I don't do muskies. Thanks for the mention though. Jeff is filming for the flw and is living down in brainerd. I will email him and see if he would be interested some time. He would be the man. Paul Nelson would be good also as he would teach you what to look for and why as you're going.

Swing on by Bluewater Bait and talk with Mark. He's a guru for fishing in the area and will help you out. Good guy, good advice...can't beat it!

Forgive me guys. I just couldn't recall all the sponsors for the bemidji forum and yes ALL of them are very good muskie guides hands down. I would not hesitate to at least give them a call or visit there websites if they have one. I wish I was in your shoes and living/working in Bemidji for the summer.

Good luck and have fun.

Have the muskies been snapping in the area? I'll be out on the water for the weekend. Anything I should be keying in on?

Today and tomorrow is the Kraus-Anderson Walleye Classic tournement and it will be crawling with boats on Bemidji. So I would look at Big, Plant, or Cass as an alternative.

good luck,

mr
