Ice Out dates in the Alex Area

Recommended Posts

What is the ice status on any of the Alex area lakes? I am particularly interested in Ida, the Chain lakes and Miltona. I'd like to know when the ice goes out. Thanks for any information.

Mary goes out before most lakes and I walked right out there last night. It'll be a while yet.

Lobster is starting to go. We are now down to 16-18 inches. Crappies are going strong.

PerchJrkr,

Your right on, April 13th average over last 80 yrs for Minnewaska. Looks to be a couple weeks late this year. Didn't reply to correct you, but wanted to ask you if you fish waska much and if you're from the metro.

I met you briefly up at Royal Dutchman the morning after you drove up through the blizzard. I was in Room #3 (Grey Chev, White Alumacraft) and thanked you for the great pix of the fish you got out of the ice flow the week before. You guys and your rig were quite a site. lol.

I spend most w/e's from May-Nov on waska. Shoot me an email if you want. I fish solo most mornings as noone wants to get up at 4:15-4:30. You seem like the type that might. Email address

Agape, are the crappies up shallow yet or are they still hanging out in the pre-spawn staging areas. Gonna be up there right after ice out and was just wondering if it was going to be over by then. Thanks,

Lee

Lee, we were catching them in 3-4 foot of water on Friday afternoon. The change from

Friday to Sunday is pretty drastic, the bay does not look safe to venture out on today.

I live in Villard so im in the area alot, fish waska quite a bit, the ice is pushing hard up into the bay at Hunts. Should be open water for next weekend! looks like a guy could get out now if you wanted to put in either at the beach or DNR landing and fish over in front of glenwood for sunnies!

how did you guys do up there that weekend? it was really tough for us on sat and sunday!

Perch,

Thurs and Friday were great. Saturday was tough. Had a decent morning, then went close to 6 hours with only 3 fish, then fair again in evening. Sunday morning was great, both weather and fishing,(had our 4 for the road in 10 minutes and a 27 1/2 shortly after), but really seemed to slow down bout the time we had to leave. I heard better reports from earlier in the week. I've been known to shut a bite down before, but we still had pretty good fishing. By far our best trip in years. We didn't make it up last year, but have been plagued by "the mud" the prior two years. I'm already planning for next year (earlier, smaller boat).

thanks for the ice update. I hope to be up there in 2 weeks. (gotta work next w/e). later, goose.

Thanks for the info, I can't wait to get up there and hit it hard for a couple days. I really appreciate the updates. Right now we are looking at the 3rd being the weekend that we go up, but if the ice goes out this week we may have to head up next Sunday.
