walleye fishing

I am kind of new to the metro area, and I am interested in finding some good walleye lakes in the southwest metro area when the season opens. Can anybody give me a few ideas of lakes in this area that I can try? Thanks for your help.

Welcome Fitz...

I'm more of a NEern suburbanite, but have enjoyed fishing certain bays on Lake Minnetonka in the spring for eyes. Local bait shops and sites like this can give you some of the specifics. It's quite a lake and one with unlimited potential for practically all species...

Welcome to FM Fitz and welcome to the addiction. Where are you at in the metro, this would help in giving you some info. I live in St. Paul and most of my time is spent on the St. Croix River. That's a great fishery and cant catch most anything in there. If you look at the St. Croix forum, you will get more ideas on where to look. I like to launch out of the bluffs because you can pay $25 a year for a washington county parks sticker and use it all year.

If you go to the NE, Forest Lake, Green and others up there are also good for eyes.

Lake Minnetonka, Lake Waconia, Lake Independence, Lake Riley, and Parley. They all have walleyes but you really need to spend the hours on the Lake to figure them out. Good Luck!

Lake Minnetonka, Lake Waconia and Lake Independence would probably be your best bet. Some of the smaller lakes have them but they are few and far between.

Minnetonka is my pick especially for trophy eyes. Indy and Waconia are better to start with as Metro eyes are weed related. Metro lakes as a rule do not have classic walleye structure so you need to modify your approach. This can be very frustrating on a lake as big as Tonka so I'd start experimenting on the smaller ones until you get a feel for what works.

If you don't mind the drive out west a bit, can get some very nice eyes in Hutch area, we do very well there, not alot of traffic too.
