I did manage a few small crappies on a couple of the smaller lakes in the Chaska/Chanhassen area today. Nothing to brag about but enough to keep me entertained for a couple hours.

There were plenty of the lighted bobbers floating in tonka last night in the usual early spots...Don't know if anything being caught or not though...

Target smaller lakes & ponds and you should find some Crappies.

I think it is too soon for crappies. They won't be in close to the spawn beds until the water temperature is around 55 degrees and these past two cold fronts have put the spawn back a week or two in most of the lakes around the cities (at least). You might find them in some small lakes or ponds.

Look for then on the North side of the lake. That is the side that gets the most sun and thus warms up the soonest. Also the sun and subsequent warmth triggers plankton which draws in minnows. The male crappies will follow the minnows in order to feed as well as to start looking around for nesting sites.

I was shore fishing the croix 2 weeks ago, caught a loner crappie and a bunch of 6-7" sunnies. Fun for the kids non the less.

I got 5 over 11 in last few days out west a bit! Ice had been out for a day or two, hope it warms soon!
