Trailer registration question

Recommended Posts

I live in Minnesota, I just bought a 1989 model boat with a 2002 bunk trailer. The trailer has no make or model name on it anywhere. It has no registration numbers on it, and it has no serial number that I can find on it anywhere. The previous owner was from Wisconsin, and apparently they don't title trailers, and you don't have to register trailers, so he has no documentation on the trailer at all, no registration, no sales receipt.

So, I have no idea the manufacturer, or model of this trailer, I don't see a serial number anywere, I basicly have nothing on the trailer.

So how impossible is it going to be to register this thing? What kind of problems can I expect tommorrow when I go to the Minnesota DMV?

Any suggestions?

I'm not sure, but I would like to know what you find. I have a custom made trailer we made and I will be using it for my boat trailer, and would like to know what it would take to get it registered. You may have to list it as a home made, or something of that sort.

I would say it's homemade and license it that way. Good luck though they can be sticklers.

I've registered a couple trailers that didn't have current registration and had no problems. One time I was asked if I had made any alterations like change the lights. Since I had, the person said they would license it as a homemade trailer even though it had been manufactured.

You shouldn't have a problem. It's a pretty simple transaction.

send me a picture of trailer and I will send you back two more places to get id numbers off of it and manufacturers name and than can tell you what state it was sold to and what dealer.

Trailers are very easy to identify as they have very characteristic design.

Also can look up to see if it was ever titled or regitered.
