Lowrance suggestion

bgmny

Question

Looking to upgrade from a Lowrance x125. I really like the bigger screen on the lcx-27 model but would like to have something on the bow too without breaking the bank. I've been reading about the networking and it seems like the way to go. Do the high dollar models have any more benefits other than a bigger screen? I am thinking abount buying one big screen or two lcx-520's and networking them together so I could run one on the bow. Any suggestions appreciated!

I think you're on the right track. The decision will be if you will be happy with a smaller screen in back or not. If you're running GPS it might be a bit tight to split-screen GPS/Sonar on the 520 compared to the X-27. I have a 520 on the bow where I split screen, but for trolling/live baiting at slower speeds it's not bad. When you're running across the water the small split-screen will be tougher to read. The larger graphs have two SD card ports also, so you can insert a map chip and a blank card at the same time if you wish. The 520 has just one card slot. The X27 has more power than the 520, but if you're fishing inland lakes I don't believe it'll be deciding factor if you go with a big or small sonar unit.

Are you set on getting color?

If you would be happy with LCD you can get LCX 15mt's on ebay pretty cheap. They have the nice large display and will work with LakeMaster chips. I have two in my boat and I really like them.

But they wont take newer Navionics chips. My 15 wont take any Navionics chips newer than 04 I think.

Go newer and be able to put whatever chip you want in it.

Dont worry it will be out dated in 4-5 years anyways. crazy.gif
