I was a Gander mountain this weekend and saw they had a couple GM 7" Heavy two piece rods, I think named "Gander Mountain -Pike Tournament Series" normally priced at $80 for $39-

Any one use one of these? Seemed like a great price and Ive been looking for a two piece casting rod for a Boundary Waters trip, thought it may fit the bill.

Any have one of these or something similiar?

I like the Gander brand - if it fits what you need I would say get it.

I like Ganders rods, they come with a lifetime warranty. You can just walk into any Gander store with you busted rod and get a new one.

Heavy two piece rods
Not a fan of the two Piece. I would bet that there aren't a whole lot of Heavy two piece rods sold each year. I would never stock one. It is a specialty rod. In my experience the people I have dealt with want the durability of a one piece rod for larger fish unless they pack in. Not a huge number of people pack Heavy action rods. I'm sure someone on here can tell us where one would be great I just can't think of one right off hand. As far as the warranty all the big sporting good stores back there branded rods the same to the best of my knowledge.

Is there a reason you're focusing on a heavy weight, 2-piece rod? Typically, on most Boundary Water trips, light and short roads are what are packed.

I used a 2 piece heavy rod for flathead fishing where we packed in a few miles through the woods to get to the spot. Other than that I would never want a 2 piece (hate the bend of it).

I have a one piece gander heavy action spinning rod that I like. It was hiding in with the med/hvy spinning rods.

I wasn't really looking for something in a heavy action specifically-they only had Heavy action on close out. Would probably prefer MH if I could find one. Didn't really want to get a two piece to start with (the rest of my rods are one piece) but thought when I saw this it may work for the larger pike on this trip and then I could use it as an extra pike trolling rod.

I agree. I don't have open water rods from them (I use G Loomis) but my ice combo looks identical to my St Croix combo. Almost looks like Croix makes them. No disappointments yet!
