Early Fishing

Recommended Posts

bobber, welcome to the site. I use a light rod with 4lb line, but if th e Co thinks your targeting large fish, it may not matter. I have caught sunfisg on #7 Shad Raps, but I would not consider using it for spring fishing.

Some guys think just because they are fishing a couple hundred yards from shore the CO's can't see what they doing. WRONG.

on pulaski there were guys trolling tonight in about 30 feet of water. we watched them with binoculars and they were using big crankbaits. i have a feeling they wern't going for crappies.

I've caught many crappies on raps...excellent search tool for open water. Can look a bit suspicious though.

If you guys want to see an interesting thread, go over to the Mississippi-North forum and check out the "A Beautiful Smallie" thread...seems the guy didn't know the season was closed...but he's got a pic up of him holding a big smallie with a gigantic rattlin' trap in its mouth. Not very secretive...

I think we need to give the smallie pic a rest. I do believe it was a mistake.

No need to do that. That thread is not going anywhere now.Enough is enough.

I saw a guy casting a huge spoon off the deer lake Bridge. If he caught a fish other than a snagged carp, the cell phone was in my hand with all intentions of calling TIP!

I have been sucker fishing at feeder creeks. (plain hooks with crawlers on bottom. Caught tons of sucker, a couple carp and 5or 6 accidental smallies. you never know what your gunna catch with a worm.

I did see a guy casting a 3-4 in jig and twister and I have never cauhgt a crappie there ever.

he caught a nort the first time I was there.

sadly he was there with his young son casting the same jig He was on the other side of the creek otherwise i would have confronted him but usualy that doesn't do any good. The place is known for walleye no doubt he was lookin for them but jeez. Wait

a f'n week c'mon

Call your local CO officer next time and let him about it.

Rang TIP on some walleye poachers last night...

.... Sure those 4 inch pink twisters on a 1/2 oz jig were for crappie fishing below a small dam in a known walleye hotspot ....
