Spring Beaver Pics.

Here's some spring beaver. Got 27 on first run of 50 330's. And got 17 more yesterday in downpour..

What are bever pelts going for these days.

17 to 20 average green, which is just skinned not streched. I catch way to many to do that.

Any reason why the one on the left is so much darker in color than the rest, or is that fairly common?

I caught as many beaver in a whole season as you did it seems in one day.

Thats a good caught. I have 30+ so far. They have just started to move here on my river. I had one jump into the canoe this morning. Scared the [PoorWordUsage] out of me, but got him. Hope to get about 100 this year. It should happen if the weather is nice and i don't have to fight high water.

Hey Protrapper I got a question for you. We have some beavers that made a dam across the road into our hunting property. I just discovered this this past weekend. The road they built on is a US Forest Service road which we have a special use permit to use and maintain. I called the Forest Service and told them about it and asked if any logging is scheduled for this area this Fall. They said no and that it was up to us to remove the dam. Everybody i talked with siad that if I get rid of the dam the beaver will just rebuild it. They told me that I need to "remove" the beaver too. Is that true? Will they just simply rebuild if I tear the dam out? Also, do you feel like trapping some beaver up near Orr?

I know this si not directed at me, but my dad has a place up that way and yes it is true you need to remove the beaver and not just the dam. If you can wait till this fall i could do it for free, or I would need to charge for doing it out of season.

After my post I noticed that this post was started a few months ago. Then I got onto the DNR website to check the season and noticed that I missed it by a few weeks. Dang....day late and a dollar short I guess. I was hoping it was a year round season

Thanks for replying Brownie. I'm heading out to our property this Sunday with my brother and uncle to take care of the situation. If we wait until Fall, the water levels will be way too high, if the beavers keep adding to the dam, which i'm assuming they will. Right now the dam is manageable in size. I was up there a few weeks ago and no dam was even in sight. They are fast workers that's for sure.

Well if you better talk to the DNR it is not leagal to tear out a dam, or kill the beaver with out permits.

They're the ones that told me I had to remove the dam. It's basically our road to maintain. It's a gated logging road that is off-limits to vehicle use. We are the only ones that have access through the gate besides loggers and government agencies. We've been told verbally and in writing that it is up to us to maintain the road to our satisfaction. We have to travel about 5 miles down this road to get to our property. We've been told verbally and in writing that we have full access to their two sand pits along the road to keep the road maintained. That being said the beavers dammed up a low spot on the road where a creek flowed through a culvert. I think if we wouldn't have had such high water this Spring it would have never happened at this spot. Anyway, I'm rambling here. The long and short is we have the OK to remove the dam which we should. I'll take some pics and post them after the weekend. Now about the beavers, well...........we'll figure something out. What are we supposed to do? Never go to our shack again?!
