i would hate to mention Minnewawa as a bass lake for fear of naming a lake - but there seems to be a few bass in there and as for spots - seeing as how weedy that lake is I would suggest fishing the weed edges.

Haven't heard any info on a bass tourney on Minnewawa-I know there is a walleye and northern tourney on BSL and Minnewawa. Would love to hear any dates or info on a bass tourney though-have a cabin on Minne and sounds like fun.

I think it depends upon water level at the time. Seems to me there have been times when we didn't dare go back. I think my dad ruined a prop a couple years ago--new boat and didn't realize just how much deeper the new one was I guess

If your looking for a couple spots--Try south west side of the main bay-both sides of the reed penisula--Spinners or jigs in reeds on the North East of north bay. or any Docks in deeper waters along either shore- I can usually pull a fair number of 4 to 6 lbers out every year. NOTE:use heavy line-pike love stealing spendy bass lures!

Thanks for that info.I took a drive by the minne to check out the lake it seems like it has a shallow access.looks like the ice will be around for a few more days cant wait till I can get out on the water.last year I got a boat at the end of the season didnt get much time to get it out,but this year it will be different. If you can get fish like that maybe you should throw in the 40 bucks and give that tournament a try

Seems like I always am unavailable for the Mcgregor area tourneys(in Texas this year during the bass tourny you're looking at)--I've been trying to make the Pike-Walleye tourney that the Chamber of commerce puts on for a couple years. Didn't even know about it until one year we were at the cabin and noticed Minne had about 35 boats in the main basin. Long story short-Decided to troll for pike and between my brother and I hooked 6 in about an hour including one pushing 10 lbs. There were was one boat who had been watching us troll back and forth who finally motored over after the lastone and asked if we were in the tournment-After we told him we didn't know about it, his reply was "good, we can still target pike then" Really it was more just a luck hour but it was still cool.

How is the fishing in the sandy river itself? I'm guessing lot's of pike...any bass, largemouth or smallmouth?

I don't know exactly where on the river you are talking about, but just below the Federal Dam, I watch a guy with crawlers catch notherns, walleyes, smallies, carp and sunnies. The rest of us using minnows and leeches didn't catch anything...

I was refering to where it flows into BSL...I believe there is an access there? With my small boat I'd imagine I'd be able to go upstream quite a ways.

Right across from the Pier...there are nortern and walleye sometimes there...A least there used to me...And crappies used to hang out under the bridge. Without a boat, that was the only shore fishing I used to know of. The access is rough, but there is one there. I also caught one of my bigger perch there.

Finally made it back up to Vermilion after 20 days off.  The ice out from McKinley Park was in very good condition.  I walked out 5/8 mile with my portable in the morning and I didn't find any water or slush on the ice.  I had 14 inches of ice with only the top 1 inch being white.  The ice was a little bumpy in spots and smooth and slick in others.  Snow cover was less than 50 % as shown in the pictures below, looking back at the landing and out from the bay.  Many full size pickups were driving all over and there were a lot of larger wheel houses out.  I hauled my small skid house out with my side-by-side in the afternoon and was very happy to be in it after dark when the wind really started to pick up.  Felt bad for the portables around me that were picking up in those conditions.  When I drove off just before 7pm, the drifts were getting much bigger and there was much more bare ice than earlier in the day.   Fishing was quite good in the morning.  Best bite was between 915 and 1045.  The walleyes preferred the smaller rainbows and chubs and wouldn't touch a very large rainbow and shiner that I tried for a while.  The walleyes were quite small with the biggest being only 14 inches.  I did manage to catch a 29 inch northern, my biggest pike in many years.   Good luck fishing, enjoy the lake, and please pick up your trash.

For sound to return doesn't it need like, well a chamber, hills, valleys. 🤔 The Internet?    Um, sorry there's no hot redheads on this site screaming out in the wilderness for you!!

I went one last time yesterday afternoon with a friend for a few hours.  We each got one, and we each missed one.  Raised about 20 birds at four spots, plus one deer.  Unfortunately, the season is now over.   It was a superb season though.  Second best season I've had with this dog.  She just had her 13th season.  I hope she can do it again next year.   I'll be sorting my sock drawer now for a couple months...

He can have this one!  Haha!  We shoulda maybe stayed on top in 14 but we could see the bottom so clearly and it was shallower than we really wanted.  The quick deeper water check yielded perch and pike right away, so we moved.  Caught plenty before dark, now pretty quiet.   I have a hunch the bay WILL fish shallower than the main lake we’re used to.   16 inches of good ice out here.

Thanks for reminding me to make sure that one is in the fish house!  It’s tradition that we watch that on the first trip every year.
