pressure washer problem

rundrave

Question

I have a karcher pressure washer with a honda motor.

This washer was given to me because it wasnt working correctly. I thought I could get it going but havent been able to.

The honda motor runs great and starts and idles really well. The problem I'm having is that its not building up any water pressure. Water shoots out from the gun but it never builds any pressure. I even tried using a gun from another washer but that didnt change anything. I cleaned all the connections and even took a few parts apart but didnt see trouble spots.

Does any one have any ideas as to what this might be? Is it possible I could take it somewhere to get it fixed? Just trying to see if this is cheaper in the long run than buying a whole new washer.

Sounds like the inlet screen may be plugged or the pump may be ruined from running it with out the water being turned on.

See if the coupler shaft or key way are working properly.

I had the same problem with mine. I'm not going to be too much help from a technical perspective. The problem with mine was a very small spring that went bad. The spring pushes on a pea sized steel marble looking thing. I replaced the spring and all is well.

I would contact customer support and tell them the very bad description I gave you and see what they say.

I was able to take it apart and fix the problem myself. the spring cost was very minimal...$10 or so which included shipping.

Inlet screen could be plugged.

Pump could be toast.

Relief valve could be lifted/leaking by. That's the cheap fix. Does it sound "Loaded" when running?

Motor to pump coupler could be sheared. This is a pretty easy fix also.

all of the above.. also look for a pressure ajustment valve. it may be as simple as turning up the pressure. you probly know this... just covering all the bases, you did say it was givin to you. ;\)

Could be the unloader/regulator valve (check for blow by). If not that then you probably need to rebuild the pump (check the pump fluid to see if it's milky). It's not too hard to do, just get some decent oil for filling up the pump case when you're done ( I use Amsoil). Also, in the fall when you're done with the pressurewasher you'll need to winterize it. There is some winterizing pump oil that you run through the hose intake and it will displace water in the pump.

Mine did this due to the pressure washer not being fully drained in the winter time. It froze and cracked the inside of the pump into a bunch of little pieces
