Bigeye, are you looking at the 787c2 Hummingbird sonar/gps combo? I thought that was what you said. It looks like a great unit. It is Navionics compatible but is it Lakemaster compatible too?

Drug the boat to Gorman after reeding that it was open. That wasn't the case when we hit the access. Did go down the road to Saber and got the boat wet there with minimal success. The water temps were in the mid to high 30's through most of the lake. 38 was the highest we found. The ducks were awsome! Note Please be 100% before posting on here that the ice is off a lake. I was pulling my hair out when I hit the access and seen ice over where i wanted to fish!

"797C2SI Combo!!!! "

ya that would be nice but the extra 350 or so isn't going to make it,i'm pushing the 787 the way it is, navionics only from my understanding on hummingbird, but that's the chips i have anyway and have been happy with them thus far.

Iceman I posted about Gorman in the other post, I should have put the info here as well, I was by there the other day.

Since we're on the subject... I just bought the Humminbird 797 SI this winter. I had it on the river a few times already this spring, but I'm still learning how to interpret it. Some of the images it displays are phenominal...I just can't wait to take it on a lake where I already have a good idea of the bottom composition!

I'm just curious to hear what anybody has to say about this unit.

I assume you mean the side immageing? Imagine that everything on the graff that is high in the water colum is light colored. the higher it gets the brighter it gets the sharper the rise the sharper the contrast. On the flip side imagine the darker the spots the deeper it gets. You can now notice a suttle change just from a color change much like you can with any color locator. Now picture trying to find fish or suttle bottom changes in area's that you may not know that well. You can do that with the SI 240' on each side of the boat. It's like mowing the lawn. Now picture you go over a spot that drops off and then comes back up. No mistery here a ditch or river bed or a creek arm. On the SI you can see off to the sides and see if there is a bend or a turn. I bet when you go to fish on the river you would prefer to fish in the deep cuts or bends. Why because the fish are there. Again you can look for these little changes 240' on each side of the boat. Both the 787 and the 797 have a beem that you can change as well. you can have it set up for detailed area's or wide scanning all with a push of a button. Nav chips work awsome in these graffs as well. You can shade depth area's. Say you stick a nice eye at 12'. Shade the 12' mark and you can now look at the whole lake with ease and see where to head next. Get on a flat on a lake and stick one shade all area's 3' and shallower. This can also work for a safety feature on an unfamilliar lake. 640x480 pixel count on the screen!!!! I can't make up your mind for you, but I can tell you that if you can swing for the SI do it you won't be sorry.
