BWCA Trip in Mid August

I am planning a trip to the B-dub in mid august and I am looking for any info on a good route for a fishing oreinted trip.I am an avid fisherman but don't know the lakes up there.I put in my work and any info would be much appreciated.

Have fun with the bugs that time of year...bring alot bug spray with a high percentage of deet. Try Mesabi lake heard alot nice small mouth in that lake.

I always thought the bugs were the worst in spring, when wet swampy areas allowed mosquitos a place to breed.

Chadwick, I'll second that, spring is usually worse. Our August trips have been the most bug-free, especially nice to lay on the rocks outside the tent after dark & not get eaten alive.

Around Memorial Day we've taken trips where you can't be outside after the sun goes down. Nasty buggers!

I've had a home in Ely for 20+ years. The best month for the fewest bugs is by far August. Still a few flies around, but the mosquito's are just about gone. Last year was very dry (until mid August). After putting the kiddo's down, my wife and I headed down to the dock to chat, watch the stars and enjoy eachother company. Only witnessed two mosquito's from 29 July to 12 August. BTW, killed them both

If I could go in mid-AUG with the gang I go with in may,,, I goto Iron lake for a smallie/wally fest. The smallies in that lake are nuts and really going in AUG and many of the eye's are the girl with the curl.
