Great game. You got to see the strengths and weaknesses of both teams exposed. It's hard to be down by 28 and come back but UNC cut it to 4 but couldn't finish. Great effort by Kansas all the way around.

Should be a great national championship. Memphis really is getting some great play from CDR and Rose and is taking it right at some of the best guards in the nation. Kansas has some amazing depth. It will be a treat on Monday.

If Billy Packer loses his voice it'd be even a bigger treat. Man that guy is a the biggest drama queen.

Looked like Kansas got bored after whipping them by 28 pts and let UNC creep back into the game before finishing them off. I'm happy to see that the All-American "Flop and Slop" got exposed and the refs played it much more loose, which resulted in less FT's for him and he had to play some real defense for a change as well as earning his baskets for once.

All I know is one game left this season that we have to put up with Billy Packer.

Oh, and I'm pulling for Memphis because of a little money on the line. ;\)

The last line I seen late this afternoon. The books had Memphis by 2.

Congrats Scott! That was a great game, and although Memphis gave it away at the line, it was still one of the better games I can remember. Way to go!

What a game. I was about to say "uncle" and figured Memphis had it but then you remember what clankers they are from the foul line. You can't win a national championship without hitting the free throws. Memphis really didn't get behind anyone all year long because they are so athletic and great defensively, so they never had pressure free throws. You still have to give them credit for really hitting their free throws in the tourney, but the law of averages caught up to them Monday night and they drifted back to earth at the absolute worst time.

Right when I thought Kansas was about to lose, the game was so good and back and forth that I thought to myself, I bet if they played 10 times, each team takes 5. Well, that's exactly what Self said after the game.

(Warning-Billy Packer Rant ahead)

**************************************************

It was a great game, but CBS doesn't do themselves any favors by leaving the best college basketball commentators by the wayside. They give Packer top billing every year, so he can give you gems like this:

Kansas has the experience in overtime championship games, they won one back in '57. Uhhhh Billy, that was two generations ago for most of these players

Joey Dorsey really needs a break because big men get tired and commit stupid fouls....Yep, he was reaching, that's 3 and now Calipari has to sit him. Great call Billy. That prediction was followed by a TV timeout where Dorsey caught his breath. Then he was whistled for body on a drive. He had to be right, so he pointed out that he made the call 5 minutes earlier.

I remember Packer saying something early in the game about foul trouble affecting Kansas more than Memphis....I was like "whaaaa?!?" Kansas came in regarded as the deeper team. That prediction fell by the wayside when Dorsey fouled out and Kansas dominated inside in overtime.

George Mason fans will remember Packer as the guy who kept saying over and over how Mason shouldn't have been in the tournament in '06 and that their at-large bid was a waste and then the Patriots proceeded to upset 4 teams en route to the Final Four. Packer spends too much time critiquing the officials. They've been playing for a national championship for over 70 years, and it was such a good game that for only the 7th time the game went to overtime. The competition was just fine; it was dictating the action, not the officials. Yet Packer picks everything they did apart. His observations are just whatever pops into his head. In KU's first sequence in the box and one on CDR, he called it a zone. The next possession he correctly called it a box and one. He used to give good coaching insight but those days are long gone. At this point Billy Packer is an old curmudgeon that can't let anything go without name dropping and trying to show how he's right. There was a time when he was great but he's too out of touch now. You're better off finding a color guy who still knows the game and knows the players and coaches a little better like someone that is fresh out of the league. Throw in a strong play by play guy like Gus Johnson and you have a decent setting.

Here's an example of what someone fresh out of the game can do in a color role. Jeff Van Gundy brings up a point only a coach would know about a certain player. Then when his point is validated, he doesn't glow over it (although his colleagues do). I guess I don't mind Jim Nance since he isn't too cliche and just tries to throw out a few corny phrases (Rock-Chalk-Championship). But there are other guys that could do just as well if not better.

At least I'm not the only one who can't stand that drama queen!

I've hated him for 15+ years. The three biggest games of the season are not even enjoyable to watch with him yapping all the time. During the little breaks Nance would do a plug for CSI, etc and Packer would start talking over him about the game before he had even finished his promo! I just love how he can tell you exactly what players and coaches are thinking all the time. Even after an amazing play he'll comment about what the player did wrong, either his footwork or general technique, completely ignoring the play that just happened.

He was going on and on and on and on about Memphis' missed FT's and how the player was supposedly falling backwards, thus missing his shot. Well, the next two FT's were swished and the guy fell backwards each time on those too and then Packer shut up...for a millisecond and then it was onto something else that someone was doing wrong. mad.gif

Time for the Pack Rat to hit the road.

Packer out at CBS, to end Final Four run after 34 years

ESPNews services

***Billy Packer's streak of Final Fours is over after 34 years.

Packer, a color commentator, will be replaced in CBS' coverage by analyst Clark Kellogg.

"With his unquestioned popularity and performance over the years, Clark Kellogg earned all rights to this top spot," Sean McManus, president of CBS News and Sports, said in a statement Monday. "Like Billy Packer, Al McGuire or any of the most highly regarded broadcasters, Clark is an original voice with his own style and perspective."

Packer, 68, will leave CBS after 27 years to pursue "other projects in basketball," according to The Miami Herald.

Jim Nantz will continue in his Final Four play-by-play role.

Kellogg, who has done game and studio analysis for CBS for 16 years, said he was "excited, humbled and quite pleased" at the opportunity.

"I appreciate the confidence Sean has expressed in affording me this new role," Kellogg said in a statement.

Speculation of Packer's exit was fueled amid widespread criticism during this year's tournament.

Early in the semifinal between Kansas and North Carolina, with the Jayhawks up 38-12, Packer declared, "The game is over."

North Carolina cut the lead to 54-50 with 11 minutes left before Kansas pulled away, winning 84-66.

The Jayhawks beat Memphis 75-68 to claim the national title.

Packer, who began his Final Four run at NBC, later defended the comment to USA Today.

"My job is to say what I see, not have some kind of subconscious feelings about offending anybody. … It probably annoyed some people, but I don't concern myself with having some agenda that's contrary to what I'm seeing," he said.

In 2006, he criticized the selection of four Missouri Valley Conference teams, before Bradley and Wichita State reached the round of 16. In 2004, Packer took umbrage at Saint Joseph's getting the No. 1 seed.

In 2000, Packer bristled when asked to identify himself by two female students checking credentials before a game at Duke. One of the students, Jen Feinberg, quoted Packer as saying: "You need to get a life. Since when do we let women control who gets into a men's basketball game? Why don't you go find a women's game to let people into?"

Packer later e-mailed an apology to the women.

Four years earlier, he apologized on the air after he was criticized for referring to then-Georgetown guard Allen Iverson as a "tough little monkey."

It's good to see Billy go, but I don't know about Clark Kellogg. I think he does color for a few games, but mostly he did the halftime show, right? They should have gotten someone more experienced IMHO.

Might not have to wear ear plugs when I mow!      That’s a spendy one.  It wasn’t hard to find one of those for $6k.  Comparatively and Ariens of the same size is $4,200.  A home owner grade JD for $3,900.  You could get into a commercial grade Z700 for maybe $8k.   I think the work I did today with mine would’ve killed that one there.

On the south end...   This year's MN Fishing Opener weekend was not only great weather wise, the walleyes and saugers were caught in good numbers.  A main fish gut hauler working with a number of resorts commented it was one of the most productive opening weekends he has seen based on the amount of fish guts collected after the weekend. The goto presentation was a jig and frozen emerald shiner.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.  Other minnows worked also, but emerald shiners are a favorite of anglers for good reason.   Four Mile Bay held good walleyes in 12 - 18'.  Not a surprise as the walleye bite on the river during the spring season was good and as of late, sturgeon anglers have been reporting catching walleyes on sturgeon rigs.   The Lighthouse Gap area, Morris Point Gap and just in front of Pine Island held nice fish in 12 - 15'.  Across the south shore, 18 - 22' was holding good numbers as well.  As you can see, there are lots of fish around.     A quarter ounce jig in gold, glow white, pink, orange, chartreuse, or a combo of these colors tipped with a minnow worked well.   As a reminder, the limit of walleyes and saugers is a combined limit of six fish, up to four of the six can be walleyes.  All walleyes between 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  One fish over 28.0 inches can be kept.  The possession limit in MN is one daily limit of fish. On the Rainy River...  Some nice walleyes were caught on the river this weekend, although most anglers hit the lake.  10 - 15' of water was the norm.     Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River has been excellent.  The catch and release season continues through May 15th and then closes until the keep season starts up again July 1st. Up at the NW Angle...  Some nice walleyes were caught in 18 - 25 feet of water, a little deeper than anticipated.  Points were good as were areas with structure.  The morning and evening bite was best.       As water continues to warm, go to spots for walleyes will be neck down areas, shoreline breaks, points and bays.     The goto presentation was a jig and minnow.

I found this dock wheel floating in Black Bay. If it's yours or you know whom it belongs to, go and grab it.
