Well then Steve, he aint in need of a plane for scouting?

;\)

Might help me on bow hunting up Ski to?

That would be one nice muskie fish to tangle with.

\:\)

Speaking of which....do I have a fish with your name on it.

I have gotten this beauty to go some ten times this past year while out with me four hounds...no bites.

Never see her when guiding so I know she playing head games with my lil brain an making my heart smile all the while.

But STUBORN.....Aaaaaaaahhh...so much so it is CREEPY.

Figure I put someone else on her ...BINGO...so might as well be you.

Maybe set aside some time in August an we can go out an try to get her to make ya smile a while...maybe a life time?

I'm just say'en!

Northlander,

Go ahead and post the pictures. As you said, there are no landmarks to be seen in any of them.

I know perfectly well what happens to a good crappie spot when the word get out on a hot bite! I have seen the results many times! \:\(

Unfortunately, it seems like no matter how quiet you try to be someone always talks!

I heard from a non-crappie fisherman yesterday about a hot spot on Vermilion. Guess where!! \:\(

I've never done well on crappies through the ice, so I dont really have the major itch to go chase them as I have spent lots of time chasing and like 0 time catching...So crappie fishing is way down on my priority list this time of year. IF they are even on it.

It would be cool to see the slabs that you guys are catching though! I bet they are butes. Even if there were landmarks in the pictures what looked familiar in the pictures, they still may be on the opposite end of the lake than what was thought!

Steve / Tom

I think I still owe Steve a trip too. Maybe us three musketeers can go find one for Steve together? Tom The one you keep seeing is probably my fish so leave it alone. grin.gif

Sounds good to me JR.

\:\)

Plus I bet you HAVE see her.

Big darn fish..way stuborn.

Funny thing it is she hangs out on a goofy spot...not real muskie looken.....doubt many other fishers other than a seasoned pair of studs would bother fishen it....and she only seems to want to come out ONE WAY!

Teases me to no end, gives me what I call "THE FIN"...move on down the area in her good sweet time off to her home sweet home.....

I swear she has even winked at us a couple of times before moving off ....I swear it to be true....

Maybe time she gets a chance to show herself and wink at you TWO..... \:\)

TO FUN.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm really seeing her at all?

If not for the four hounds seeing her also, I just might, just might figure she is a mirage or a Vermilion dream...a full color wonderful dream...with same ending...over an over an over again.

But the hounds say different, so I keep on rocken.

;\)

Its not all about hooken up to me as you well know...but this one would be special.

As you also know...some of these beautys just make ya tingle a bit more than others.

Geeezzzzzzzzz.

: )

This crappie thing has created quite a stir?!

I remember the day well that i found those crappies you guys are enjoying catching. I drilled about 125 holes and spent all day searching for them.. ran the auger out of gas as a matter of fact.I was a little sore the next day.

I invited a couple guys to come along a couple days later. Thats what fishing to me is all about, sharing and enjoying time spent on the water.

I don't really care who fishes in MY crappie hole because it isn't MINE. The lake is for everyone to enjoy. I caught my share of crappies out of there and enjoyed eating them.. if thirty people were there when I go to fish there again, I will probably drill a couple holes and join them!

When the crappies quit biting, it's time to find a new spot.

There is ALWAYS another spot (for any species) if your willing to look around! And the most rewarding thing is finding that spot and being the first guy to hammer them!

I guess that no spot is really a secret spot! Someone else has always been there before you got there!

Even our secret walleye holes are not secret anymore. Especially after we have guided a few clients to them.

As Casey stated, we just have to enjoy being the FIRST there while we can I guess,:)

Here are Cliff and Northlander's pics.

If you can find this crappie hole based on these pics, you are indeed a magician. grin.gifgrin.gif

Great pics of nice Crappies! Thanks for posting them as I was thinking it was an April fools joke since the original post was on April 1.

Looks like the spot will remain a secret unless you leave your dog there to guard the hole but then when thin water comes he'll probably leave!

SO really all a guy has to do is look for a spot where there is an abundance of dog hair and that should be the spot. That is if the lab is shedding anything like our dogs right now.

All in fun. You just can't beat getting out on a day where the temp get to hot to fish and you have to take a long the sunscreen or else. Gotta love this time of the year.

It looks to me that they were fishing somewhere between Hibbing Point and Armstrong Bay and maybe even up to Dago Bay. crazy.gifcrazy.gif

The craps are hitting well on Vermilion and other local lakes--gotta work hard but they are there.

I have taken two pictures of snow and placed them on a lake map at Vermilion Fuel and Food so that anyone can find the hot spots. Or the other thing is just come to the store and I'll make up a story about where they were catching them a few days ago! It seems to me, without fail I have always been a day late, you know...you should have been here yesterday!

Great pictures and it sounds like everyone is having some fun, have to do something during the tweener time of year. Tween the hard water and soft water.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
